The Role
We are looking for a high-performing Transmission Development Engineer , who is responsible for planning, developing, and executing subsystem level tests in a world class testing and development facility. Tasks also include data analysis, calibration development, identifying opportunities for data reduction, and leading the migration of lab-based activities to math. This is an assignment where creativity, initiative and independent judgment are involved, and effective cross-organizational teamwork is crucial.
What You'll Do
- Follow development test unit through build process - support setup and debugging to assure test readiness
- Track and report on testing progress and issues
- Develop and execute first-time capable tests for calibration and hardware development
- Lead diagnosis and resolution of issues that occur during setup and testing
- Actively participate in Product Development Teams and work with Technical Experts to improve current tests and develop new tests.
- Lead and execute development activities for transmission controls systems /components including valve body, hydraulic routing, actuators, sensors, wiring etc. from concept through production.
- Project Management of all development activities related to bringing transmission controls systems into production by leading a cross functional team comprised of various engineering groups including Design Release, Calibration, Diagnostics, Software, and Controls Architecture Engineering.
- Create and improve processes for transmission level calibrations.
- Utilize and create post processing tools to assure data quality and track usefulness of data in generation of final calibration or reports
- Develop and implement standard work processes
- Interact with facilities, technical leads, calibration teams, hardware release engineers, virtual team, and others to improve process and test efficiency
- Support math-based activities, migrating additional work from Road and Lab to Math based models and data analysis
- Train, Mentor, and develop new engineers
- Document testing and process best practices and lessons learned
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics
- Minimum 7 years of experience in automotive with Transmission, PHEV, Drive Unit, Electric Traction Motor, Drive Unit, Hybrid or Conventional Powertrain Calibration, or Hardware Development
- Sound understanding of Transmission controls and hardware
- Demonstrated Drive for Results
- Excellent Planning and Problem-Solving skills
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others, and ability to establish Peer Relationships.
- Ability to prioritize work and resource, and work independently with minimal direction
- Proficient with computer and data acquisition systems
- Demonstrated experience with first principal models or data analytics
- Ability to travel as required for offsite testing (less than 10%)
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- 10+ years of experience in automotive engineering with drive unit or transmission knowledge
- Exposure to propulsion system calibration in test and vehicle environment
- Experience with AVL PUMA/CAMEO and ETAS INCA software
- DFSS and Root Cause / Red-X experience
