The Role
The Product Safety Data Analytics team is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Data Scientist. This is a great opportunity for an innovative data scientist who is eager to explore how state-of-the-art platforms and tools like Databricks and AI/ML can be used to drive safety decisions and improve overall safety for our GM customers. You will be part of a highly collaborative team that values growth, creativity, and a relentless focus on data-driven business transformation.
In this role, you will be responsible for identifying potential emerging vehicle safety issues by analyzing, mining, and monitoring relevant internal and external data. This requires identifying trends and patterns in customer complaint, engineering, crash, telematics, survey, and research data. To be successful, you must be proactive, adaptable, and detail oriented, producing high quality and accurate work product.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Understand safety data and how to use it appropriately in data analysis

Correctly perform the appropriate statistical data analysis to provide unbiased results

Continuously drive efficiencies by implementing automation opportunities using a combination of custom software development and integration of off-the-shelf solutions

Tell a story with data to influence decision making

Develop innovative analytical approaches to root out, predict, and identify potential emerging issues through data analysis and reporting

Present analysis findings to internal audiences by synthesizing complex data and concepts into easy-to comprehend cohesive presentations

Collaborate with Safety, Engineering, Quality, and IT stakeholders to arrive at actionable insights

Proposes new initiatives and delivers solutions, driving cross team efforts

Recommends opportunities for process improvement and proactively anticipates needs within own area
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

3 years of experience in Data Analytics
-
Bachelor’s degree in Applied Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or related field

Skilled in statistical methods: time series, categorical data, multivariate analysis, sampling design, reliability, and ANOVA
-
Proficient in data visualization using Power BI and Tableau

Experienced in analyzing text and unstructured data

Strong communicator, comfortable presenting insights to executive leadership

Self-driven, results-oriented, and adaptable to ambiguity

Experienced in data preparation and processing

Committed to continuous learning and skill development

Familiar with vehicle safety technologies and performance metrics

Proficient in Python, SQL, and Spark
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Knowledge of GM IT systems and processes, especially in the areas of Engineering, Quality/Warranty, Customer Care and Aftersales, or OnStar

Experience working with Databricks and building automated workflows

Experience in using telemetry data

Experience in vehicle development or validation of safety related systems or components

Working knowledge of safety standards and regulations

Experience with dealing with both structured and unstructured data
