Title:
DG BOSS: Painter/Chipper (FN)
- Provides preservation services including but not limited to painting and cleaning services to the prepositioned ships in Diego Garcia.
- Performs exterior painting of surfaces that have been hydro blasted to include priming and necessary cleanup of all trash, paint spills, and debris generated.
- Surface Preparation: Prepare ship surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and removing rust, old paint, or other contaminants using appropriate tools, such as scrapers, sandpaper, or chemicals.
- Coating Application: Apply primers, paints, and protective coatings to ship exteriors, interiors, decks, and superstructures using brushes, rollers, spray guns, or other application methods.
- Mixing and Matching: Mix and match paint colors and materials to achieve desired finishes and adhere to specifications.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure proper thickness, coverage, and adherence to coatings by conducting quality checks and inspections during and after application.
- Corrosion Prevention: Apply anti-corrosion coatings to prevent rust and deterioration of metal surfaces exposed to harsh marine environments.
- Works on high structures of the ship using scaffolding and fall protection devices and in the environment of shipboard hazards and operating machineries.
- Expected overtime work, 2 hours daily.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, sanitary, healthy, presentable, and professional atmosphere, free of dust, clutter, and trash in all working facilities and areas.
- Responsible for following a comprehensive, flexible, and properly documented training program.
- Responsible for proper utilization and safeguarding of all government and contractor-provided property (e.g., to include government facilities, equipment, and tools).
- Responsible for precise execution of company time reporting procedures and accurate completion of timesheets.
- Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing applicable P.P.E., and promote safety awareness.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must know the proper surface preparations, the best coating to use for each purpose, and the accepted application techniques to obtain the desired results.
- Must be familiar with, and trained in, the proper use of respiratory protection equipment such as respirators and other breathing devices.
- Basic trade knowledge, such as the use of job-related tools and equipment.
- Must speak, read, and understand the English Language.
- Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
Preferred Qualifications
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING
- Marine Painting certification/s is highly desirable.
EDUCATION:
- Must have a High School diploma or equivalent; An associate college degree, or any equivalent is highly desired.
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have at least three (3) years’ experience as a Marine Painter or previous job experience, particularly in a Naval or commercial shipyard.
