Job Summary
Comcast is looking for an enthusiastic User Researcher with a focus on qualitative methods to join our highly respected internal practice.
In Connected Living, we build the experiences behind Xfinity Internet, Xfinity Mobile, and Smart Home—helping households set up service, manage devices, troubleshoot issues, and control their homes from one place. We’re a collaborative, product-led group that values learning, mentorship, and diverse experiences.
Job Description
Turn stakeholder questions into clear, human-centered insights that shape product decisions. You’ll plan and run qualitative studies (discovery interviews, diary studies, contextual inquiry, concept/usability tests), synthesize what you learn into practical recommendations, and partner closely with Design and Product to ship improvements. This is a growth role with mentorship and broad exposure across the product lifecycle.
What you’ll do
- Discovery & generative research. Run 1:1 interviews and contextual inquiry to understand needs, behaviors, and mental models; translate findings into opportunities and jobs-to-be-done.
- Concept & usability testing. Plan and moderate remote and in-person usability sessions, cognitive walkthroughs, and concept tests; identify issues, severity, and clear fixes.
- Secondary research & expert reviews. Conduct heuristic evaluations; synthesize industry and market research; and produce competitive analyses.
- Planning & recruitment. Define research goals, write research plans, create screeners and discussion guides, and recruit participants.
- Synthesis & storytelling. Turn notes, clips, and observations into simple themes that explain the “why,” and recommend next steps.
- Presentations. Communicate findings clearly in writing and in talks; comfortable presenting to groups, in person or virtual.
- Collaboration. Invite Design, Product, and Business partners to observe and participate in studies to build first-hand understanding of user behaviors, mental models, and needs.
Minimum qualifications
- 2–4 years in UX research or a closely related field, conducting qualitative studies end-to-end.
- Hands-on experience with interviews, usability testing, and thematic synthesis; strong notetaking and observation skills.
- Ability to deliver insights in a variety of formats—one-pagers, toplines, presentations, and working sessions—to maximize impact and help teams apply findings.
- Practical knowledge of research ethics, privacy, consent, and inclusive practices.
Preferred qualifications
- Graduate degree in Anthropology, HCI/UX Research, Psychology, Cognitive/Behavioral Science, Human Factors, or a related field—or comparable experience.
- Experience with diary/longitudinal and field research.
- Expertise in survey design and analysis.
- Comfort partnering with product analytics to triangulate qualitative insights.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and basic video editing.
How we’ll measure success
- You maintain a steady research cadence and deliver concise, decision-ready recommendations.
- Your research leads to product decisions that ship.
- Key experience metrics improve (e.g., higher task success and setup completion, fewer support contacts).
- Partners find your work clear and useful, and teams reuse your insights and templates.
- You set realistic plans, meet deadlines, keep stakeholders updated, and flag risks early with options.
Leveling & scope
- Individual contributor with mentorship; not a lead role.
- Own scoped research projects for three product areas; collaborate with central partners for recruiting, tools, or data as needed.
- Emphasis on practical, fast, and rigorous qualitative methods; light quant only to support decisions.
