The Role:
The Technician reports to the Group Leader of the Engineering Maintenance and Technical Support (EMT) support organization. The EMT team is primarily responsible for specifying, sourcing, engineering, integrating, safely commissioning and developing a robust maintenance model for test equipment within the lab. This role directly affects the quality, durability and performance of vehicles and related products developed by General Motors.
This job is based in General Motors’ Milford Proving Grounds Energy and Emissions Laboratories. The lab and results it produces are used by GM’s growing team of engineers in support of the vision of a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion.
The Technician role is a good fit for a qualified individual who is interested in state-of-the-art technologies and testing methods, system-level integration, and related equipment in a laboratory setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a contact to internal and external stakeholders for Engineering Maintenance and Technical support related activities, including day-to-day operations and future planning initiatives
- Monitor ongoing tasks, providing regular status reports to stakeholders and leadership while proactively identifying and escalating roadblocks when appropriate
- Act as a technical resource to internal and supplier teams in all aspects of Engineering Maintenance and Technical Support
- Ability to create, launch, and execute a preventative equipment maintenance system and related plans for key facility infrastructure supporting testing activities
- Troubleshooting and repair of laboratory infrastructure specifically supporting the testing activities (process HVAC, machine repair, electrical distribution and plumbing disciplines).
- Maintain awareness of the latest test equipment and technology, including commissioning, safe operating procedures, and maintenance requirements
Your Skills & Abilities (Qualifications):
- 3-5 years of related experience in mechanical service role
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Maximo as used for Preventive maintenance, planning and execution
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of autonomy in a complex environment, managing multiple maintenance events, by establishing priorities and executing with minimal supervision
- Experience with equipment used in Emissions Development and Certification testing (Building and Process)
- Experience utilizing building management systems for diagnosis and troubleshooting overall operation
- Experience working with equipment suppliers and installation contractors
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, where issues are complex in nature
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID/One line/ Electrical and Control diagrams for use in diagnosis and troubleshooting of hardware
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- 7 years of related experience in mechanical service role
- Understand wind tunnel design, operation, and troubleshooting
- Understanding of theory, operation, and application of mechanical pump circuits, steam, humidity control, Reverse Osmosis and CAP DI systems used to support process operation
- Vibration data collection, ultrasonic testing, and thermal imaging exposure to be used in predictive maintenance programs
- Familiar with service, PM and mechanical door operations
- Experience with equipment maintenance processes in an industrial setting
- Experience working in an ISO 17025 or ISO 9001 accredited environment
