The Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls (VMEC) team in GM’s Software and Services organization is at the core of vehicle control—developing the software and calibrations that orchestrate everything from internal combustion engines and hybrid drive units to high-voltage batteries, chassis, thermal systems, and beyond. Our mission is to continuously invent and refine how the world's best mechatronic systems are controlled.
We are seeking an Engineering Group Manager to lead a team focused on the Vision & Visibility Body Controls domain. In this role, you will lead a talented group of developers and engineers to define requirements and ensure cohesive & consistent behavior design across the domain. You and your team will work cross-functionally across product, program and systems partners to ensure seamless integration and delivery of high-quality, production-ready software in support of both our current portfolio and our all-electric future.
What You’ll do:
- Technical leadership and vision in the Body Controls domain, driving engineering excellence and adherence to best practices
- Set a high bar for the standard of excellence as it relates to Behavior Technical Specifications (BTS), FMEAs and requirements definition; guide your team to meet & exceed the bar
- Lead requirements definition, design & implementation, testing and problem resolution
- Develop and execute forward-looking strategies aligned with customer needs and GM’s transformation into a tech-driven mobility company
- Demonstrate strategic insight into emerging technologies, helping shape long-term vision and innovation
- Leverage Agile methodologies to accelerate innovation, enhance team velocity, and deliver high-quality software on time at scale
- Build and nurture a high-performing team focused on capability growth, technical development, and talent retention
- Foster a collaborative culture that encourages innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement
- Manage internal/external stakeholder and/or supplier relationships, including technical oversight, performance tracking, and alignment with program milestones and quality standards
- Engage in code reviews, critically evaluate existing approaches, and provide architectural guidance as needed
- Model and champion GM's values and behaviors in everything you do
- Note: This position is a hybrid role, with an expectation of being onsite approximately 3 days per week.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience related to embedded control systems, calibrations, and toolchains (eg: DOORS, C programming, Matlab/Simulink, Lauterbach/debugging tools, CAN/LIN/ethernet network protocols, Jira, Git ecosystem)
- Demonstrated technical background in Body Controls domains (eg: vehicle access, lighting, HVAC/cabin comfort, occupant position & protection, etc)
- Demonstrated leadership of engineering teams developing or testing embedded control systems in an Agile environment
- Strong ability to drive results through collaboration, manage multiple projects with varying priorities, and measure work using data and key performance indicators
- Experience managing suppliers, including technical reviews, milestone tracking, and issue resolution
- Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills; able to align multiple teams toward a common goal
- Proven track record of successful project execution and delivery
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and drive timely, informed decision-making
- Valid driver’s license with ability to operate test vehicles
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
- Master’s degree in Engineering and/or an MBA
- Familiarity with ASIL safety systems and regulatory standards
- Experience leading the development and implementation of industry standards in embedded systems
- Background in safety and regulatory compliance for embedded systems
- Experience managing globally distributed teams
