The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
Responsibilities As part of the team, you will:
- Provide technical planning support primarily for Operations and Maintenance shops to include including Cranes, Doors and Platforms (CDP), Crawler Transporters and Structures (STS), Emergency Egress Systems (EES), Ignition Overpressure and Sound Suppression (IOP-SS), Facility Ground Systems Pneumatics
(GPNEU) and secondary back-up support to Launch Equipment Shop (LES).
- High School degree;10 years of experience is required.
- Possess moderate knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, such as Outlook, Work, Excel, PowerPoint and TEAMS.
- Technically and mechanically inclined with experience in heavy equipment operations and maintenance, move operations of large
objects, lifting/rigging equipment and mobile and/or overhead cranes, tugs, heavy forklifts, dollies, and slings.
- Familiar with the concept of work control and the work order life cycle.
- Familiar with the concept of preventive maintenance.
- Exhibit concise communication skills daily, both orally and written.
- Exhibit customer service skills daily, required for customer interaction to discuss requirements.
- Ability to read engineering schematics, drawings, and engineering’s specifications is a plus.
- Must follow strict work area rules and safety protocols.
- Demonstrate ability to develop work plans to maximize the efficiency of work with optimum crew size.
- Must be organized and detail oriented.
- Must be a self-motivated, team player comfortable working in a dynamic environment. Experience working with represented
employees is a plus.
- Experience in Maximo, Solumina and Peoplesoft is highly desired as well as knowledge in working with a computerized maintenance
management system (CMMS).
- Functionally skilled in identifying parts/materials needed to support scheduled work activities in specialized work areas.
- Skilled at recognizing conflicts and possess the ability to collaborate with technical shops in the development of workable solutions to
minimize problems and schedule impact.
- Must be able to plan and coordinate work between multiple disciplines to ensure work can be scheduled to completion.
- Must possess knowledge of creating work orders in Maximo, Solumina, or other work management system.
- Must collaborate with engineering and review work instructions for thoroughness and completeness.
- Have good verbal and written communication skills and ability to appropriately communicate in a timely manner.
- Actively participate in daily scheduling meetings to understand work priorities, resolve technical planning issues for heavy equipment, high
crew, and proof load shops.
- Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer
and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
- Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers,
clients, co-workers, employees and management.
Physical Requirements
- Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment to perform work assignment assessments, engineering
- evaluations, and job planning.
- Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, hard hat and other associated personal protective equipment.
- Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
- Position is located on a fabrication facility and industrial environment; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the
event of an emergency.
Work Environment
- Work Environment requires to work inside and outside throughout the work and shop areas.
- Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
- Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on
center.
- Climbing ladders, stairs and potential work at heights may be necessary.
- All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
