This position demands Core Engineering focused, result oriented Engineering role within Cab system & components department to support non-metallics sub system. The role requires to work and deliver high end complex NM projects including Plastic components, Headliners, Rubber parts , Insulations etc.
The scope of responsibility not limited to designing the parts but also material selection, selection of manufacturing process, plan FEA & test requirements, connect with suppliers , witnesses trial , work with cross functional team to prove the design and ensure product meets the best of CATERPILLAR standards within defined time and cost targets .
Qualification requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical/ Production/Automobile)
- Post-Graduation / master’s degree / Diploma (Tool & Die making or equivalent ) are preferred
Software proficiency:
1. Expert level - Creo (surface modelling, Solid modelling, Sheet metal etc.)
2. Expert Level – Team centre or equivalent PLM tool
Work experience:
- Relevant work experience of min. 7 years
- Must have a record of delivering min.10+ strong design project.
- Experience to work on tool room manufacturing process.
- Must have worked on minimum 05 projects from scratch till proto / production.
- Must understand various mechanical systems and relations between system/components and their failure modes.
- Should have involved in resolving the field failures / part fit up issue etc.
- Should have worked on reverse engineering projects / with Industrial design team.
- Handled few cost saving or Quality improvement projects
- Technical ability to collaborate across organizational/ sub-system team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Core skill descriptors:
- Strong Knowledge of Plastic product designs principles (i.e. Part thickness, Ribs design, Gussets , Boss , Dog house etc.)
- Must be aware to validate & Qualify the part for manufacturability (i.e. Draft Analysis , min. radius checks, Uniform wall thickness etc.)
- Hands on Experience in Mold manufacturing process like Injection moulding, Vacuum forming, FRP and Roto moulding.
- Knowledge and experience in Tool Room machining process (i.e CNC, EDM, Milling, wire cut etc.)
- Should be able to read, understand and interpret the FEA reports, Mold flow analysis outcomes etc.
- Candidate must have strong technical expertise to develop new design concepts/ proposals and drive decisions - with appropriate data facts & Logics.
- Must be able to work with Suppliers, Buyers, SDE’s to provide engineering support required to develop the parts.
- Must be a good team player , provide technical supports in day -day activities, develop master sections, convert ID sketches into concepts & others .
- Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD &T) and Tolerance Stack up analysis.
- Should be able to take individual design decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
