Job Summary
As a Technical Expert for Electrical Installations within Resource Industries Operations and Products (RIOP), you will serve as the primary subject matter authority driving design excellence, standardization, and continuous improvement across product groups. This role combines strategic influence and hands-on leadership representing RIOP in corporate committees, guiding critical design reviews, and mentoring teams on best practices for harness and cable design. You will lead knowledge management initiatives, collaborate with suppliers and technology partners, and ensure sourcing strategies align with engineering standards. Your expertise will shape future product development and deliver innovative, manufacturable solutions that add value to Caterpillar’s electrical systems.
What you will do:
- Represent RIOP in corporate-level committees, contributing to design guide development and 1E specification creation and reviews.
- Manage technical information for electrical installation designs, including establishing a cadence for updating electrical design guides and engineering standards for RIOP products.
- Lead RIOP Electrical Installation (ELI) teams in building and maintaining a comprehensive knowledge repository for future reference.
- Serve as the ELI subject matter expert during NPIs, CPIs, audits, and urgent issue resolution for RIOP product groups—actively participating in design reviews and guiding best practices, with emphasis on key milestones (DR2, DR3, Analyze & Improve).
- Drive knowledge sharing and promote best practices, commonality, and simplification across product groups.
- Mentor team leads on APQP best practices, focusing on harness and cable design.
- Educate team members on harness and cable manufacturing principles, including design-for-manufacturability guidelines.
- Define and document a preferred clipping hardware strategy for electrical installations, ensuring inclusion in the RIOP preferred hardware document.
- Facilitate sourcing decisions aligned with category strategies by collaborating with purchasing to ensure supplier readiness.
- Represent RIOP in technical community meetings and special projects.
- Collaborate with suppliers and validation teams to deliver value-added electrical installation solutions for Caterpillar.
- Engage with CAT Technology on continuous improvement initiatives related to harness components and methodologies.
Degree Requirement:
- Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering program

- Product Development Life Cycle - MFG: Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables of product development life cycle in manufacturing organizations; ability to bring new or enhanced products to the marketplace.
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
- Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Summary Pay Range:
$144,960.00 - $217,320.00
