Work Arrangement : This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Grand Rapids Operations on a full-time basis.
This role is eligible for relocation.
The Role:
The 2nd shift quality leader is responsible for quality across the entire Grand Rapids Operations (GRO) facility on 2nd shift. In this role you will be responsible for supporting production in regards to any quality concerns including setting up sorts when necessary, executing part holds, problem solving quality issues, establishing breakpoints and working on CI items with the manufacturing teams. You will also be the contact with GRO customers on any quality issues experienced at their facilities during the 2nd shift. This role also requires the ability to cover for the 2nd shift plant shift leader when needed. This includes being the single point of contact for safety, escalation and production targets.
What You’ll Do:
The 2nd shift Quality Engineer will be responsible for:
- Monitoring and reviewing part quality performance
- Address manufacturing quality issues
- Improving quality performance on 2nd shift, through hands-on problem-solving support. Helping to determine root cause and support implementing timely, effective and efficient corrective actions.
- Escalating supplier quality issues discovered
- Champion a Built in Quality (BIQ) element
- Support the compliance to IATF 16949, General Motors Global Manufacturing System (GMS), and Built in Quality (BIQ) certifications
- Actively participate in monthly proactive PFMEA reviews
- Provide quality technical assistance for production activities
- Support the 2nd shift manufacturing team to ensure efficient manufacturing operations, by being an indirect leader of multiple cross functional teams (Driveline, Valvetrain, Maintenance, Engineering)
- Support the crew lead in overseeing daily operations, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with support departments
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes and reduce waste.
- Ability to communicate effectively through detailed end of shift reports to ensure accurate communication between shifts and complete hand off of projects
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications
- Engineering degree
- 5 years of experience in quality, supplier quality or manufacturing
- Proficient in facilitating problem solving activities
- Working knowledge of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Process Failure Modes Effect Analysis (PFMEA), and Process Control Plans (PCP)
- Working knowledge of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
- Ability to effectively communicate to customers
- Ability to develop product quality standards (PQS) based on customer requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of statistical quality control and design of experiments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross functional teams simultaneously.
- Interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
- Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
