The successful candidate will join the Maintenance Directorate to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. The Roofer will report directly to the Maintenance Pipe and Building Trades supervisor.
Responsibilities:
- Perform roof preventive maintenance and repairs as needed to facilities located at NASA Langley
- Must be knowledgeable roof structures and the various typed of coverings and coatings
- Must be able to repair roofs with shingles, slate, tin, asphalt, aluminum, wood, foam, and related materials
- Must be able to repair various types of structures, exterior sidings and interior walls using a variety of materials and methods to bind, seal, insulate, secure, reinforce or soundproof
- Maintain inspection, maintenance, repairs, condition and all work documentation concerning roof work
- Must have commercial roofing experience
- Roofer will also respond to Mission Impacts and trouble calls for leaks associated with facilities at NASA Langley
U.S. Citizenship required. High school diploma or GED equivalent. Ability to obtain a NAC clearance. Six (6) years of experience in industrial and commercial roofing. Training in designated field, craft or trade that can be documented by a certificate/diploma. Valid driver's license.
Essential Functions: Office Environment: (10%-25%)
Test/Industrial Environment - Craftsman will be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities. Travel between various facilities during test operations may be required and exposure to potentially hazardous equipment in an industrial plant environment. (90%)
Physical Requirements:Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist for extending periods of time and lift up to 35 lbs. Must be able to pass a physical which includes: vision, hearing and high workers physical. Ability to distinguish between basic colors. Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. (90%)
Equipment and Machines:Standard office equipment - PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.
Must be able to use various ladders, manlifts (e.g., scissor lifts, high reach buckets, etc..)
Software: MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) (35%)
Attendance:Regular attendance mandatory (100%)
Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (20%)
