The Role
We are seeking a high-energy, technically agile System Safety Engineer to support new and existing GM Propulsion Systems. The System Safety Engineer will work in a fast-paced and iterative work environment to ensure that GM system safety processes and methods are applied during the creation, development, and validation of Propulsion Systems. They will be responsible for specifying the propulsion system and component level safety requirements so that the product level requirements can be met under all operating and customer usage conditions.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
You will be responsible for developing Integration solutions to meet vehicle requirements. Full understanding of the VDP process. This activity includes problem solving with support of the Integration leaders. Work requires an understanding of engineering concepts. Has the ability to work with limited direction and independently and make decisions based on general practices and procedures. Proficiency in Project Planning. This activity includes creativity and initiative in independent problem solving and leading multi-functional teams for issue resolution. Exercises independent judgement and creative solution development with minimal direction from EGM.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelors degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science

5 years of engineering experience in a job-related field

Understanding of hardware design, software interfaces and failure modes

Working knowledge of functional safety ISO26262 or IEC 61508 or UL 9540 standards

Knowledge of verification and validation processes

Participates in and/or leads design/peer reviews
-
Lead change request reviews for safety impact and supports the Safety Critical Calibration Process and workgroup

Utilizes guidance from internal/external customers to meet requirements
-
Stays ahead of current product developments and trends in area of responsibility

Share lessons learned with peers and manager

Keeps Manager informed of assignment status, timing, and technical issues and makes recommendations based on work completed

Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities

Independently creates/manages project plans and ensures high quality, on time completion of tasks

Responsible for mentoring other team members
