The Role
We are looking for an initiative-taking engineer who is driven to deliver innovative, customer-facing components in Vehicle Access Controls Hardware. Must be a self-starter and must work effectively cross-functionally. Working as a Vehicle Access Controls Hardware (VAC-HW) Design Release Engineer (DRE) can provide one with a solid foundation of leadership skills. The VAC-HW DRE is responsible for definition of requirements, execution of design, analysis, development, testing, validation, and program management of engineering projects for VAC-HW Components where creativity, initiative and independent judgment are involved. Additionally, the VAC-HW DRE provides technical direction over a Product Development Team (PDT) consisting of engineers and engineering support personnel. Activities include managing supplier timing; running PDT meetings; issue investigation and resolution; ensuring part and/or software deliveries to benches, vehicles, and assembly plants. VAC-HW components currently include the following: Power Closures ECUs and Sensors, Remote Function Receiver, Antennas, Key Fobs, Folding Top Controller, Universal Garage Door Opener, Tire Pressure Sensors, and Trailer Integration Modules
At this level of Design Release Engineer VAC HW you are expected to operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy, administering and coordinating programs, counseling and advising management.
As a fully-qualified Design Release Engineer VAC HW who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function, you will provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems. Resolve highly complex technical issues and conducts advanced research. Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
Skilled and proficient with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Rely mostly on extensive personal experience and discernment to plan and accomplish goals.
You will perform multiple tasks. Lead and likely direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Responsibilities:

Ensure the Vehicle Access Control Hardware is validated, and all requirements are met by the supplier.

Package the Vehicle Access Control Hardware components.

Author Engineering Work Orders to release the components for prototype and production vehicles.

Prepare timing plans that ensure all program requirements and MRD dates are met.

Run Product Development Team (PDT) meetings to coordinate the development and integration of the components into the vehicle.

Represent Vehicle Access Control Hardware at Vehicle Program Team and Management meetings when requested.

Oversee Validation for the Vehicle Access Control Hardware.

Create and maintain Interface Control Design (ICD) strategy and ICD templates.

Develop & Maintain commodity specific documentation.

Generate and Maintain Global Component Technical Specifications templates.

"Close the Loop" on learnings by updating required information (Best Practices, GM Specifications, Statement of Requirements, Template, etc.) and document progress in

Work assigned issues in Problem Resolution Tracking System.

Work cross-functionally within GM, coordinating multiple suppliers.

Lead/manage supplier resident engineers.

Support sourcing activities.

Generate technical solutions for current, new, and major programs.

Perform complex design analysis.

Initiate documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math/CAD data.

Work with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel, and others to implement cost reduction, methods, and product improvements, and to support build programs.
Requirements:

Bachelor degree in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree program

5+ years of experience in a related field

Demonstrated experience in Automotive Embedded Controller (ECU) Design and Release

Working knowledge of vehicle serial data communications (CAN, LIN)

High level knowledge of automotive embedded controller (ECU) verification/validation processes

Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming
