Why You'll Love This Role
As a Systems Engineer Intern, your primary focus will be supporting a Systems Engineering team with requirements development, design, implementation, and test activities, while assisting with the adoption and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). You’ll collaborate with mentors and experienced engineers to contribute to mission-critical systems and help integrate AI into engineering workflows. This internship offers hands-on experience across the systems engineering lifecycle and exposure to cutting-edge technologies. This position is onsite in Sioux Falls, SD.

You’ll work closely with mentors who will guide your professional growth, collaborate with experienced engineers on mission-critical projects, and learn best practices for building and integrating complex systems. Responsibilities
- Assist with requirements development, design, implementation, and test activities for mission-critical systems
- Collaborate with mentors and Systems Engineers to identify AI opportunities in engineering workflows
- Support integration of AI tools into systems engineering processes
- Assist in creating documentation, workflows, and integration plans for AI adoption
- Participate in brainstorming sessions to turn innovative AI ideas into reality
- Support system design, integration, and testing activities as needed
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence concepts and tools (e.g., machine learning frameworks, AI APIs)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
Desired Skills
This internship is designed to help you learn. Prior experience in all areas is not expected.
- Familiarity with Systems Engineering principles
- Programming experience (Python or similar)
- Interest in Earth science or space systems
- Experience with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence
Special Requirements
Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential. The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hiring to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account. Experience and/or education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability.
