Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Phantom Works Organization is seeking a Senior System Administrator to support the Phantom Works Space Battle Management Command and Control (SBMC2) team in Colorado Springs, CO.
Phantom Work’s Space Battle Management Command & Control (SBMC2) team requires a Senior System Administrator to support operation of a classified network and provide hands‑on system administration for CI/CD pipelines, platform availability, and secure test infrastructure. This role is essential for day‑to‑day operations: triaging and resolving incidents rapidly, coordinating cross‑team infrastructure changes, and preserving readiness for integration and operator testing. In addition to technical execution, the position will provide leadership and mentorship to improve team efficiency, reduce operational risk, and accelerate delivery against the customer backlog.
Position Responsibilities
Defines and validates requirements for new and revised hardware and software systems (mixed Windows/Linux environment on VMware vSphere and OpenStack).
Oversees system integration, hardware and software installation, configuration and disposition of IT Infrastructure to support the architecture.
Provides complex problem resolution, root cause analysis and technical support for systems.
Develop and deploy new or revised processes in support of new computing systems, including documentation and training.
Supports the development of system integration strategies and architectures that promote use of common tools and processes.
Administers user system access and establishes safeguards to protect information to meet security requirements. Work closely with the security team on hardening and remediation.
Leads integration of new services and technologies in addition to transitions from legacy systems to support business requirements.
Collaborate with information system security officers, DevSecOps engineers, and other administrators to balance user needs with system security requirements
Oversees activities to monitor system performance to support capacity planning, backup and disaster recovery planning.
Mentors, leads and trains others.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at Colorado Springs, CO.
Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically depending on business needs.
This position requires an active U.S. Top-Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
5+ years of System Administration experience managing Windows and/or Linux servers on a secure government network
Ability to obtain security certifications such as Security+ or equivalent IAT Level 2 certifications per DoD Instruction 8570 (8140)
Experience implementing least privilege, role-based access control (RBAC), privileged access management (PAM) solutions, and documented account lifecycle processes
Experience with Active Directory object management and Group Policy
Experience with DoD RMF, STIG compliance, SCAP/Automated scanning, and secrets/PAM solutions
Experience managing system updates/patches for Windows and/or Linux via automated tools such as Endpoint Configuration Manager and Satellite
Hands-on experience with virtualization; vSphere, OpenStack, and/or Linux KVM
Experience with troubleshooting complex technical issues across multiple layers
Understanding of networking; including TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, firewall policies, static routing
Experience with system monitoring tools such as Kibana and Grafana; including alert creation/management
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):
Bachelor's degree or higher
2+ years managing OpenStack; including tenant management and maintaining both the undercloud and overcloud
Experience with configuration control boards as technical or engineering SME
Experience managing SAN/NAS; to include iSCSI, NFS, SMB, snapshots, replication
Linux container creation/maintenance; utilizing Docker and/or Podman
Kubernetes operations; ability to troubleshoot issues in a cluster
Scripting and automation experience with Ansible, Bash, PowerShell, and/or Python
Familiarity with Cisco and/or Juniper CLIs and configurations
Experience managing Microsoft Exchange and/or Endpoint Configuration Manager
Experience with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) security processes
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience, 18 years' related work experience, etc.).
