Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Grand Rapids, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role:
The Quality Engineer (QE) serves as a critical technical liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing, and our customers. You will ensure that both internal and external quality requirements are met by analyzing production inputs and outputs, driving corrective actions, and supporting robust quality systems throughout the manufacturing process.
What You’ll Do
- Monitor, review, and report on part quality performance.
- Address manufacturing quality concerns and secure customer approval for effective corrective actions.
- Review and approve key quality planning documents, including Control Plans, PFMEA, and Process Flow Diagrams.
- Audit manufacturing processes and quality systems for compliance and continuous improvement.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action activities for internal and external quality issues.
- Apply working knowledge of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
- Provide technical guidance to improve quality performance and support robust problem resolution.
- Support product launches, changeovers, and ongoing production activities with technical expertise.
- Communicate effectively across cross-functional teams and champion Built-In Quality (BIQ) initiatives.
- Support compliance with IATF 16949, GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS), and BIQ standards
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) :
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Manufacturing, Welding, Plastics, Materials, Chemical) or an equivalent Technical Degree such as Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics
- 3+ years of experience in quality, engineering, or manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, procedures, tooling, and equipment.
- Ability to investigate quality issues and develop sound, data-based solutions.
- Proficiency in print reading, part measurement, and gage functionality.
- Knowledge of GD&T.
- Familiarity with statistical quality control and DOE.
- Ability to work any shift and weekends as required.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with Teamcenter, FlexNet, or other part traceability systems.
- Technical or quality-related certifications (CQE, Six Sigma, etc.).
- OEM or Tier 1 automotive experience.
- Background in quality engineering, supplier quality, or manufacturing quality.
- Knowledge of APQP.
- Statistical problem-solving certification (Red X, OpEx, DFSS, DMAIC).
