Legal Counsel
What does a successful Legal Counsel do?
Join the Legal team at Fiserv supporting global payments and financial technology solutions. You will provide commercial and regulatory legal counsel to product, sales, and compliance teams to enable secure, compliant delivery of payments and fintech products. This role focuses on reducing legal risk while enabling business growth in Mandarin-speaking markets.
What you’ll do:
- Provide legal advice on payments, banking, and fintech products, interpreting applicable laws, regulations, and industry rules to guide product design and commercial decisions.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial contracts, vendor agreements, technology licensing agreements, and NDAs to manage risk and support deal execution.
- Counsel teams on regulatory compliance matters, including interactions with regulators and responses to regulatory examinations.
- Support cross-border transactions and collaborations with a focus on Mandarin-speaking jurisdictions and partners.
- Partner with privacy, security, and operations teams on data protection, incident response, and vendor risk assessments.
- Conduct legal research, prepare legal memoranda, and provide training on legal and compliance topics for business stakeholders.
Experience you’ll need to have:
- 6+ years of experience in financial services regulatory and payments law, including NACHA and PCI DSS-related compliance.
- 5+ years of experience drafting, negotiating, and reviewing complex commercial and technology contracts.
- 5+ years of experience advising on corporate governance, securities law, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
- 4+ years of experience in professional fluency in Mandarin (reading, writing, and oral) with experience supporting cross-border legal matters.
- 4+ years of experience in data privacy and cybersecurity law, including GDPR and CCPA compliance.
- 4+ years of experience using legal research and contract lifecycle management tools (e.g., Westlaw/LexisNexis, DocuSign CLM, Ironclad).
Experience that would be great to have:
- Experience advising on cross-border transactions and regulatory matters involving Greater China.
- Prior in-house counsel experience at a fintech, payments, or financial services company.
- Familiarity with AML/BSA regulatory frameworks and sanctions screening (OFAC) in a payments context.
- Experience supporting M&A, commercial integrations, or technology vendor migrations.
- Experience managing legal support for regulatory examinations and executive-level stakeholder communication.
