Job Description
Telemundo Deportes, the exclusive Spanish-language home of the FIFA World Cup 2026, is seeking a Sports Communications Coordinator to support all communications efforts leading up to and during the world’s biggest sporting event. This role will also contribute to publicity efforts around other Telemundo Deportes properties, including U.S. Soccer, FIFA tournaments, the NFL, and the Premier League.
This is a project/limited term position, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.
This position will play a key role in executing proactive press initiatives, developing relationships with media and influencers, and amplifying Telemundo Deportes position as the leading destination for Hispanic sports fans ahead of this once-in-a-generation event.
Responsibilities
- Support the planning and execution of comprehensive PR campaigns leading up to the FIFA World Cup 2026, from major milestones to on-site tournament coverage.
- Develop and maintain media lists across sports, entertainment, and multicultural press.
- Draft and update press materials, including press releases, media alerts, tune-ins, talent bios, and story pitches.
- Assist in managing the Telemundo Deportes PR social media channels (particularly X/Twitter), developing ongoing content and engagement strategies.
- Identify editorial and partnership opportunities to highlight Telemundo Deportes World Cup programming and broader sports portfolio, including the Olympic Games.
- Collaborate with production, marketing, and creative teams to craft 360° PR plans around key campaigns and network initiatives.
- Maintain a detailed communications calendar and publicity drumbeat tracking milestones, announcements, and activations.
- Monitor media coverage and provide daily and event-based reports to the broader communications team.
- Participate in key planning and production meetings to stay informed on programming and storylines that support PR efforts.
- Cultivate strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to effectively support Telemundo Deportes publicity goals.
Qualifications
- Deep knowledge and passion for sports, especially soccer and global sporting events.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach.
- Strong writing, editing, and pitching skills — proficiency in both English and Spanish preferred.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and digital storytelling.
- Proficient in Photoshop or similar design tools.
- Prior experience in publicity, media relations, or sports communications is a plus.
