The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering ( TFOME ) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center is searching for a Data Systems Technician.
TFOME is dedicated to excellence in service and to providing outstanding technical opportunities for our employees. We specialize in providing engineering and technical services in the areas of aero/space propulsion and power test facilities to NASA Glenn.
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $36.82 hourly. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Job Duties
Installs, tests, and services a variety of computer software, hardware, data network, and telecommunications infrasturcture. Monitors workstation and network productivity and troubleshoots issues. Configures and maintains desktop systems, printers, and other peripheral equipment. diagnoses and corrects problems with computers and communication hardware and software. Provides help desk support and specialized technical assistance to system users, escalating issues as necessary. Safeguards software, hardware, and license inventory. Creates, updates, and deletes user profiles. Maintains records, logs and other documentation for computer processes, procedures, hardware and software. May develop and modify productivity reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
A. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Works from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, cranes, boatswain chairs, suspended platforms or cages, etc.
2. Works while bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, or in a prone position for extended time periods.
3. Works in closely confined spaces.
4. Lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds, sometimes up and down stairways, where lifting devices and hoists are not available.
5. Pushes and pulls heavy objects.
6. Ability to use hearing and vision protection and respiratory equipment.
7. One eye (minimum) correctable to 20/20.
8. Ability to distinguish eight color panel displays.
B. WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Work indoors and out in high and low temperatures and in all types of weather conditions.
2. Work in dusty, noisy, hot, high humidity, dirty, and greasy environments.
3. Work in areas where there may be materials that are irritating to eyes, nose, throat, and skin while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
4. Work with other personnel in a group that is Team Oriented.
5. Accept and work within established policies and procedures pertaining to company rules and regulations.
6. Work on and around high voltage equipment and systems.
C. EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASK
1. Network switches, media converters, extenders.
2. Electronic test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes).
3. Mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic hand tools.
D.CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE
Regular daily attendance is required to maintain job effectiveness. Some overtime may be required.

Associate degree in Electronics or related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience.
Strong knowledge of networking principles and infrastructure.
Proficiency in operating systems (Windows/Linux).
Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical documentation.
Skilled in soldering and cable fabrication.
Familiarity with electronic test equipment.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
