The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced automotive manufacturing quality professional to join our Seats SMT team. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality of our seat components through robust supplier management, advanced quality planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Lead and participate in APQP processes and methods for new and revised seat components, ensuring suppliers meet General Motors' quality standards and program timelines.
- Drive cross-functional team leadership activities, collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing teams to resolve supplier quality issues and optimize component performance.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive supplier quality management strategies and systems, including audits, performance metrics, and corrective action plans.
- Conduct supplier assessments and capability studies to evaluate their ability to meet technical specifications and production demands, with a focus on seat manufacturing.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and problem-solving activities for supplier-related quality defects, driving effective and sustainable corrective actions.
- Provide technical guidance and support to suppliers to improve their manufacturing processes, quality systems, and overall component quality.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience gained through extensive hands-on manufacturing and quality work.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, Engineering, or Operations within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated hands-on factory floor experience supporting production and program launches.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing quality systems and supplier quality management practices.
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, dimensional measurement systems, and gage design and validation.
- Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and suppliers without direct authority.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to drive accountability and results.
- Willingness and ability to travel typically up to 25%, with increased travel during program launch periods.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Automotive industry experience.
- Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing environments and new product launches.
- Experience with AIAG quality systems and tools such as APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Run at Rate (R@R).
- Professional certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
