At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale..
The Role
The Technical Specialist (TS) is a recognized technical leader responsible for solving the most complex challenges in the vehicle structure isolation domain. The role supports subsystem structural development from requirement definition through virtual analysis and performance validation. The TS collaborates cross‑functionally and globally with AVD, DREs, VDDV, quality, safety, purchasing, and validation teams on isolation systems.
The TS owns the technical foundation for body and cradle mount development and works with technical teams and DREs to document and refine key processes (BP, Peer Reviews, ICDm, DFMEA, etc.). This foundation will guide updates to performance requirements, business case development, and technology roadmaps. The role emphasizes design integration and engineering simplification to support the broader architectural product portfolio.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
-
Lead as the global single point contact for body/cradle isolation systems and the integration aspects across the commodities, with emphasis to align component, system, safety, and validation requirements across teams.
-
Provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development, and implementation of engineering solutions across the body/cradle isolation TS components.
-
Support Global Safety and Field Investigations issues and Emerging Issue Identification investigations.
-
Comprehend component cost, mass, and quality targets working across subsystems to identify and implement strategies that enable ideal balanced solutions.
-
Support the development of new technologies to better model the performance of structural integrated solutions.
-
Mentor and provide consultation as necessary to TSs, VSEs, DREs, ETLs, EGMs, and GPSC.
-
Manage and maintain proper technical documentation ensuring integration across structural TS components:
-
Ensure Global subsystem/component technical specifications and test procedures templates (SSTS/CTS/GMW) have cross functional alignment.
-
Ensure templated component timing plans are strategically aligned for efficiency across the GVDP framework elements.
-
Ensure interface control document (ICD) templates are aligned and conduct in-depth ICD reviews across integration areas.
-
Maintain all Peer Review template instructions
-
Develop, maintain, and approve commodity specific SORs and SOR templates.
-
Create, update, and maintain sourcing strategy with the Purchasing Commodity Manager and Engineering Technical Leader and participate in appropriate ECTs.
