Not RequiredThis is posting is for a Senior Electrical Engineer in the CNS Hardware Surveillance Group in Melbourne, Florida. The primary responsibility for this position will be part of the team in supporting existing traffic and weather related avionics products. This Engineer role is for an experienced Electrical Engineering professional, working with a small group of other EE Engineers. The position will support existing products, along with associated requirements and test procedures. The engineer must have knowledge of the principles and techniques commonly used in EE development and qualification related to commercial avionics. The position will also plan projects in order to determine the best approach to be taken to accomplish the project goals and support development of bids and schedules. This position may encompasses both new design and product sustaining support roles.
Collins' customer base and supplier network is such that that the successful applicant must be willing and able to travel both within the USA and internationally.
This is an onsite based in Melbourne, Florida.
What you will do:*

Read complex electrical schematics and mechanical drawings is required
-
Generate and update schematics, board layouts and mechanical drawings as desired
-
Expand and apply knowledge: Product domain, Requirements, Design, Development, Test and Release software processes, tools, methods and coding best practices with primary emphasis on taking technical ownership of the product domain.

Develop and document complex changes to hardware requirements documentation applying knowledge of processes, tools and methods for the management and tracking of hardware requirements baseline.
-
Design, analyze, test, integrate, qualify and document hardware of a high complexity including multiple Engineering Change Orders.
-
Work closely with other engineering disciplines (i.e. mechanical and systems engineering) to insure the electrical design is appropriate for the project/product design approach.
-
Understand and utilize the appropriate Collins processes and tools during product development, resulting in increased product quality and improving customer satisfaction.
-
Participate in cross-functional team efforts in integration, pre- qualification and qualification for products and sub-systems of moderate complexity.

Support on-going production activities and provide technical leadership when requested
-
Contribute to the engineering estimates for limited to moderate scope electrical design problems.
-
Considered a Subject Matter Expert in at least one area and considered a domain generalist in multiple areas, including a moderate understanding of systems knowledge in the assigned areas.

Apply and tailor internal processes, using knowledge of methods and tools for LRU development and documentation efforts. Ensure that development products are designed to meet the applicable RCI, Business Unit, and Customer/Project requirements.

Review LRU defects trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements and recommend new approaches, tools, techniques that drive continuous improvements in the development processes.

Review and maintain awareness of obsolete parts on assigned products. Provide appropriate resolution to obsolete parts.

Proactively identify and communicate technical issues and help resolve these issues. Ensure these issues are elevated to project leadership for resolution.
Qualifications You Must Have:
-
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

US Person is required - Job requires access to ITAR or 600/500-series EAR information or hardware (directly or indirectly) and the company will not seek an export authorization for this role.

Experience with generating schematics / board layouts

Hands on experience with complex electrical hardware debug and test

Extensive experience in one or more electrical hardware design disciplines including digital, analog, mixed signal, power or RF design
Qualifications We Prefer:

Experience with embedded processors, and RF systems

Processes - Understand the aspects of various aviation industry qualification standards, such as DO-160, DO-254, and meeting requirements of TSO submissions.

Experience working with Air Transport OEM’s on developmental projects

Knowledge of avionics traffic and weather related products.

Familiarity with the signal processing system simulation & analysis tools (e.g. Matlab, Simulink)

Familiarity with configuration control concepts and tools (e.g. Agile, JIRA, GIT, Subversion)

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
