Join Caterpillar Safety Services as an Instructional Designer and help create the learning experiences that strengthen safety culture, leadership capability, and human and organizational performance. Your work will support organizations striving to build safer, more resilient workplaces.
This role is ideal for a curious, collaborative instructional design professional who excels at transforming complex concepts into clear, engaging learning solutions. You’ll partner with subject‑matter experts and consultants to design training that is practical, relevant, and aligned with Caterpillar methodologies.
What You’ll Do
Design training modules, courses, and programs that support Caterpillar Safety Services processes, methodologies, and customer needs.
Gather and analyze course performance data to measure training effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
Review, refresh, and maintain training materials to ensure content is accurate, impactful, and instructionally sound.
Evaluate new training methods, tools, and content formats to determine feasibility for future programs.
Collaborate with subject‑matter experts to translate technical and behavioral concepts into structured learning experiences.
Develop storyboards, job aids, multimedia learning assets, and eLearning modules that support safety culture transformation.

Effective Communications Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and verbally. Skilled at presenting ideas and avoiding unnecessary jargon. Listens to feedback and uses it to improve communication effectiveness.
Training and Development Strong understanding of learning theory, instructional design principles, and instructor‑led and digital course development. Proficiency with Adobe Captivate, Articulate Rise/Storyline, LMS platforms, and related tools.
Relationship Management Builds strong working relationships with SMEs, consultants, customers, and peers. Responds promptly to requests, monitors satisfaction, and collaborates to resolve issues.
Service Excellence Delivers high‑quality instructional products, responds quickly to customer needs, and uses feedback to improve future training materials.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking Applies structured analysis to evaluate training needs, interpret data, and guide instructional decisions. Organizes information, prioritizes issues, and assesses risks and alternatives.
Problem Solving Identifies and documents problems, evaluates stakeholder perspectives, and develops solutions using fact‑finding and diagnostic tools.
Top Candidates Will Have
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or Communications.
Portfolio demonstrating storyboards, job aids, multimedia assets, and eLearning modules.
Proficiency in multimedia tools (basic graphic/audio editing).
Instructional design certifications (ATD, eLearning Guild, or university programs).
Additional Information
The primary work location for this role is Portland OR Peoria, IL, with a requirement to work on‑site full‑time at a Caterpillar facility.
Up to 10% travel may be required.

Summary Pay Range:
$97,530.00 - $146,290.00
