Job Description
We are NBCUniversal's enterprise-wide Standards department. Our team develops and implements content policies that center our viewers and excite our collaborators, including creators, advertisers, and brand partners, to deliver the best experience for all audiences. We support innovative advertising and culture-defining entertainment programs while ensuring that NBCUniversal’s advertising and program content reflects the sensibilities of our company and respects our varied community of fans.
We are looking for an experienced, dynamic Manager to join our team. You will be a positive, highly professional leader with a thoughtful, proactive nature, strong interpersonal instincts, and the ability to influence others and solve problems collaboratively. You will be responsible for evaluating advertising and programming content, with latitude for initiative, judgment, and action. You will be expected to spot issues, think quickly, and make accurate decisions to maintain the integrity of NBCUniversal and the trust of our audience. As we are a multi-disciplinary team, you will be flexible, pitching in across both advertising and program standards as needed.
This role is based in Los Angeles and reports to the Vice President, Standards. As we are a geographically distributed department with teams in Los Angeles, Miami, and New York, you will be expected to partner effectively and seamlessly with colleagues across the department to achieve common goals.
Responsibilities:
- Manage early career team members in a culture of coaching, learning, feedback, and teamwork, encouraging collaboration, creative thinking, and innovation.
- Review complex commercial categories, and related marketing, scientific, and other data submitted in support of advertising claim substantiation, to ensure they meet internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Screen, issue notes, and assign TV Parental Guidelines ratings for multiple programming formats and platforms, ensuring standards, corporate, and regulatory compliance, while making sensitive contextual judgements.
- Collaborate closely, and foster excellent relationships with internal teams (Comms, Legal, Programming, Sales, Product, Engineering, and Operations, etc.) and external stakeholders (creative executives, advertising agencies, legal counsel) to ensure our department is effective and aligned with company objectives.
- Conceptualize and lead projects that help the department operate more effectively.
- Operate delay mechanism for live programming, including outside regular working hours.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years combined experience in standards and practices, and/or relevant work experience in any of following areas: trust and safety, content moderation, television production, advertising, regulatory, policy, or legal within the media and entertainment, technology or other related industries.
- Minimum one (1) year management experience preferred.
- Must be willing and available to work some evening and weekend hours to meet operational needs.

- Must be a highly collaborative team player with the ability to think strategically and practically, use good judgment, analyze risk, and make quick decisions.
- Must be able to separate personal beliefs and interests from content review requirements and apply NBCUniversal's policies to applicable content.
- Must demonstrate respect for all and foster an equitable and inclusive environment.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to engage in difficult conversations as our work can require discussion of sensitive subjects appearing in content undergoing review.
- A passion for television and an understanding of industry trends and developments.
Desired Characteristics:
- Able to recognize and adapt to rapidly changing business needs and prioritize accordingly.
- Excellent multi-tasking, negotiation and analytical thinking skills, and demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
- Experience partnering with stakeholders across EPD (Engineering, Product, and Design) a plus.
- Familiarity with digital content moderation frameworks tailored to new ad monetization models, enforcement operations, and user-protective systems a plus.
Additional Information:
Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $85,000 - $105,000 (bonus eligible)
