Job Overview
As a Purchasing Intern, you will be responsible for a range of support activities for the Purchasing Department. This team provides support by maintaining our suppliers for all production parts in accordance with safety, quality, delivery and cost requirements and to ensure continuous improvement of QDC (Quality, Delivery, & Cost) to maximize output for our customers.
This position is based onsite at our South Harbor location in Milwaukee’s Harbor District. The target start date is Summer 2026, with the opportunity to continue part-time through theFall 2026 semester. We offer full-time hours during the summer and flexible scheduling during the academic year.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Work with the performance leader to complete various projects and duties related to purchasing.
- Interact with internal/external customers and suppliers to respond to requests and questions.
- Identify, plan, and implement key projects to improve quality, reduce costs, increase productivity, and improve cycle time by reducing wasted time, rework, etc.
- Responsible for data entry, database creation/maintenance, and data analysis as needed by the team.
- Support the day-to-day transactions and documentation of supply chain operations.
- You will have the opportunity to directly impact the business by executing purchase orders, reviewing exception messages, and expediting as needed.
- Working cross functionally to ensure goods meet our quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Other duties and projects may be assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in BA/BS Degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain Management, Engineering (or equivalent), or similar, from an accredited college or university
- Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or master’s level student in good academic standing
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team towards a goal
- Excellent organization and personal time management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Possess effective problem solving and critical thinking skills; ability to be creative and resourceful when needed
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications
- Background or course work in Data analysis economics, or mathematics.
- ISM /APICS course exposure a plus but not required.
- Creative, high energy, and self-motivated
- Excellent PC software skills with Windows Operating system. SAP ERP System.
- Exposure to, experience in, or understanding of MRP (Material Requirement Planning) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and the ability to maintain data to accomplish company production strategies/goals. Preferably in SAP but any ERP system is beneficial.
- Understanding of the concepts around or experience in Bills of Materials, Routings, Blueprint Reading, Purchasing, Inventory Control and Order Processing functions.
- Interest in or aptitude to learn about careers in the heavy equipment industry.
