We are seeking a seasoned Director, Software Engineering to lead the RDK Operations Engineering organization. This leader will define strategy, drive engineering and operational excellence, and ensure our Entertainment and Video products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and readiness before launch. In this role, you will own the quality strategy, certification processes, test automation frameworks, and release readiness governance for video products for Comcast and Sky. You will guide multiple teams responsible for ensuring that every product meets our highest standards of performance, reliability, compliance, and customer experience before launch.
This role is ideal for a highly technical, customer‑obsessed leader who thrives in fast‑paced, cross-functional environments and excels at developing teams, optimizing processes, and guiding complex programs from concept to deployment. You know how to help engineers navigate priorities and communicate clear expectations with customers. You should be knowledgeable about the architecture of distributed systems and the software development life cycle.
Core Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the engineering strategy for pre‑release quality, certification, and operationalization of RDK-based video products.
- Drive multi‑year roadmap planning, engineering excellence initiatives, and cross-team alignment.
- Foster an inclusive culture centered on growth, collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
Technical Leadership
- Provide strategic and tactical test solutions for video device or system’s ability to support various video solutions, frame rates, codecs, and formats, enabling the playback, recording, and transmission of video content.
- Guide architecture decisions across automation frameworks, DevOps systems, test environments, and observability platforms.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with Comcast’s technology standards.
DevOps & Automation Strategy
- Oversee development of automation tools, CI/CD integrations, test infrastructure, and reporting systems.
- Strengthen telemetry, monitoring, and end-to-end observability across release pipelines.
- Drive operational improvements that increase velocity, reliability, and development efficiency.
Quality Engineering, BDD & Reliability
- Own the test strategy for RDK stacks, video firmware, and pre‑release validation.
- Expand BDD adoption, optimize testing scenarios, and increase automation coverage.
- Implement risk-based testing, reliability engineering practices, and coverage optimization frameworks.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Act as the primary engineering interface with Architecture, Product, Program, Operations, QA, and vendor partners.
- Provide clear, data‑driven updates to senior leadership on risks, readiness, and operational performance.
- Lead certification governance, readiness reviews, and launch decision processes.
People Leadership
- Lead and mentor managers, senior engineers, and technical experts.
- Build high-performing, diverse teams through hiring, development, and coaching.
- Establish healthy team dynamics and ensure a strong pipeline of future technical leaders.
Customer and Business Impact
- Champion customer-first thinking in all engineering and operational decisions.
- Promote the Net Promoter System to bring customer insights directly into product and process improvements.
- Ensure all activities support Comcast’s values of inclusion, integrity, and doing what’s right for customers and communities.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, test automation, or reliability engineering.
- 5+ years leading engineering managers or multi-team organizations.
- Deep technical knowledge of video systems, video interoperability, streaming apps and related domains.
- Proven leadership in CI/CD, automation frameworks, observability systems, and large-scale test infrastructure.
- Strong expertise with BDD, quality engineering, scenario design, and test coverage optimization.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive presence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with RDK video product architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Java, Spring, Python, Jenkins, Git, Maven, MySQL, and related test/tooling ecosystems.
- Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams.
