Role Description:
This position reports to the Group Director of Business Operations and functionally to the E&EI EHSS Snr. Director.
Leads the EHS function within the Division and is accountable for delivering the EHS programme and performance. Develops and implements an EHS programme that supports the Division and aligns with the overall Energy & Environment International (E&E-I) Operating Model. Provides advice and guidance to all employees. Ensures client EHS expectations are met or exceeded and best in class ethical and sustainability standards implemented. This role is expected expand over the next few years to encompass growth areas associated with the Australia Nuclear industry that Amentum may pursue.
This role may also include an element of billable work in support of project delivery or other client requirements as necessary.
- Develop and lead delivery of the short- and long-term performance goals that support the Division and align with E&EI and Amentum Australia strategy and goals.
- Coach, guide and advise senior functional and operations partners in EHS requirements to meet legislative and regulatory compliance.
- Create a culture of safety leadership by continually striving for EHS excellence and supports the development of a strong safety culture relevant to the business.
- Operate fully in line with Amentum’s values; is an exemplar for behaviours and drives the same level of performance throughout the EHS function.
- Ensures compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the Division business undertakings.
- Plan, implement, monitor and reviews all aspects of EHS performance and ensures a programme of continual improvement.
- Lead the Division EHS audit program and drive the close out of improvement actions.
- Have a high focus on EHS performance on projects and ensure EHS resources and support are adequate.
- Identify any projects which require to be on the EHS Watch List and support delivery of solutions and improvements.
- Responsible for ensuring timely incident reporting and that incidents are investigated to a high standard, classified correctly and that High Value Learnings are developed where appropriate.
- Lead the implementation of internal EHS change programmes and continual improvement and support clients with theirs.
- Ensures that EHS incident response arrangements are established across all locations.
- Drive delivery of the EHS training program to ensure all employees undertake mandatory training.
- Support the development of internal and external awards that recognise EHS excellence.
- Support the implementation of SafeUP® committees in offices, projects and client locations where appropriate.
- Provide support to other functions where they interact with EHS.
- Develop close relationships with the Sales team to provide support to bids.
Essential Requirements:
- A relevant Work Health and Safety qualification to Certificate IV minimum.
- A good working knowledge of project related environmental requirements.
- Relevant industry experience.
- Experience of EHS in construction/infrastructure and project delivery
- Experience as an incident investigator and EHS Auditor.
- Good knowledge and the practical application of Australian WHS legislation.
- Experience of working to ISO45001 and ISO14001 standards.
- Capable of delivering EHS improvement programmes.
- Competent communicator both written, verbal and presenting at senior management, supervisor and ‘shop floor’ levels
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Security Clearance at NV1 level or be prepared to obtain it.
Desirable Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in WHS or a related field
- ICAM Lead Investigator (level 2)
- Experience in the application of Australian Radiation legislation – ARPANSA Radiation Protection Series
- Australian Radiation Safety Officer Certification

- Be a visible and credible ambassador for SafeUp®, lead by example and partner with the management team to deliver sustained and improved safety performance.
- Support and coach the development of office/site SafeUp® committees.
- Own the leading and lagging metrics and analyses for the Division and contribute to new leading metrics and other areas of innovation in the pursuit of improving safety performance.
- Be an exemplary EHS professional demonstrating commitment to continued professional development. Participate in external networking & technical development.
