Job Description
The Weekend Executive Producer must be a dynamic leader who can guide evening and weekend news coverage for WCAU and WWSI. The EP manages teams of producers, content producers, and writers on all aspects of newscast production while working closely with the assignment desk and overseeing/reviewing the work of reporters and photojournalists.
The Weekend Executive Producer works with the VP of News and News Director of WWSI to lead editorial content, branding, and production of news coverage that demands a breaking-news approach, as well as exclusive investigations and long-term projects. The Executive Producer also works closely with the Multi-Platform Executive Producer, Senior Digital Director of WCAU & WWSI to make sure coverage is seen across multiple platforms including FAST.
Responsibilities
- Lead producers, content producers, writers, reporters, photojournalists, editors, and assignment editors on news coverage for WCAU & WWSI.
- Collaborate with other newsroom managers, and all divisions of NBC News and Telemundo, for day-to-day coverage and special events.
- Work with all facets of the WCAU & WWWSI organizations, including production, IT and engineering, to ensure the most accurate and compelling local coverage.
- Scheduling producers, content producers, and writers for the daypart
- Work closely with WCAU Standards & Legal on reporting and approval for stories with investigative approaches and elements that require review.
- Track coverage-related costs and ensure fiscal responsibility in the news division.
- Work closely with Creative Services to craft effective newscast promos.
- Must embrace a fast-paced, highly graphic, visual storytelling process.
- Must have experience with computer-assisted reporting.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience leading producers, content producers, writers in dynamic newscast production while guiding coverage and newsgathering.
- Bilingual English/Spanish abilities, including writing and editing
- Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and management of a news team.
- Strong editorial judgment as well as the ability to respond and make decisions in a breaking news situation for coverage across multiple platforms.
- Experience in script approval, with strong editorial judgment.
- Proven team player.
- Ability to multitask and work with changing priorities.
- Impeccable communications abilities with both internal and external constituents.
