Description:
This position requires electrical engineers who have a strong desire to apply their skills towards the design cycle development and insight into flight vehicle avionics, controls, test, logic design, and integrated test to assist our NASA customer with the overall development of Robotic Landers for both Lunar and Mars Missions.
Ability to quickly model new designs for small thruster CubeSats.
Ability to review several large documents in short order and quickly find root cause of anomalies from both data and hardware evaluation.
Development and integration of the elements and components to meet the safety, technical, and program (cost and schedule) objectives of the overall systems.
Evaluate systems program risks associated with the design, and identification of any safety concerns regarding the design.
Provide support for trade studies and issue resolution as well as to requirements definition and flow down
Coordinate with the appropriate MSFC engineering disciplines to conduct independent assessments necessary to evaluate CubeSat Propulsion Systems.
Assess designs, including impacts of changes to systems performance, identification of the technical risks associated with the design, and identification of any safety concerns regarding the design.
Provide analytical support for trade studies, design analysis, test, flights, and evaluation of models.
Interface with senior engineers and aerospace technicians who are available to provide guidance and mentoring to quickly ramp you up to increased levels of responsibility.
Apply knowledge of operational requirements to assist ESSCA engineers in maintenance and operational support Propulsion Lander Systems.
Provide mechanical and/or electrical diagrams, circuit control drawings and simulated active models to assist with build phase bread- boarding prototypes.
Data review.
Provide illustrations as needed to support Program Management reviews.
Analyze data logs and results for documentation.
Support failure investigations
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university preferred and 10+ years’ interrelated experience
Excellent Skills and experience required in the following:
Interpersonal and communication skills and strong team commitment and customer relations
Written and verbal communication skills
Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
Prefer experience with ESD lab for assembly and rework of small satellite propulsion system electronics
Manage fabrication, revision control, and hardware/software debugging of microcontrollers
Experience with thermal vacuum and random vibe qualification test campaigns of electronic controllers.
Code Python data parsing and data reduction code for both LabView and InfluxDB-based systems.
Managed schedule, requirements, risk tracking, issue mitigation for small satellite propulsion system.
Support integration of CubeSat via procedure writing, avionics review, and flight software development.
Develop flight C++ software for small satellite propulsion systems; designed GSE boards and interface software for “flat-sats” and functional tests.
Lead purchase, manufacturing, assembly, and testing of propulsion systems.
Additional preferred Skills and experience in the following:
Planning, organizing, scheduling and resource allocation
Hydraulic fluid control systems, electro-mechanical motion control, and battery powered control systems
Simulink experience or ability to take the class through proficiency soon after employment
Industry and/or lab experience with motion controlled kinematic systems
Matlab and Simulink
Working within an IPT and/or collaborative team development environment
