Software Engineering Manager - Billing Platform
About your role:
Clover is a global leader in point-of-sale and business management solutions, empowering millions of merchants and developers through our innovative App Market. As the Software Engineering Director, you will lead the Clover App Market Billing team—a high-impact, global group of senior server and full-stack engineers, data specialists, and operational experts. Your mission is to scale our core billing platform into a world-class cloud service that navigates the complexities of modern fintech, legacy banking, and global compliance for our diverse ecosystem of partners and resellers.
What you’ll do:
- Direct and provide oversight to an engineering team that will build the core Clover Billing platform to federate and implement a cloud service solution to meet global settlement, tax, and compliance needs.
- Be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of features in support of the Clover product and platform.
- Ensure we are keeping pace with the technology that balances delivering solutions efficiently with creating a technically challenging and fun development environment.
- Work cross-functionally with Product Management, Design, Quality, Operations, Product Operations, and Customer Support to define roadmaps and schedules to deliver high-quality solutions for our clients and partners.
- Preparing and reviewing technical designs, code reviews, and delivering high-quality architecture.
- Accessing risks based on product complexity, resource, and/or timeline constraints.
- Maintaining relationships with internal & external partners during the implementation process to include integration partners with global compliance requirements..
- Provide inspiration and guidance to the growing team; foster a culture of transparency, collaboration, and innovation.
- Establish department standards and procedures, recommending efficient ways to ensure the best implementation practices of new or upgraded products.
- Strive to provide a great product experience via automation and online self-service.
- Partner with HR in identifying and onboarding engineering talent as we continue to grow.

Experience you’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, related discipline in Computer Science and/or Engineering is preferred.
- Combined 5+ years of experience in the Fitech, banking, and accounting industries. Familiarity with Financial, Audit, Compliance, and Tax governance.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in full-stack development as an individual contributor with 6+ years of experience as a People Leader managing midsize to large distributed teams.
- Strong technical background, ideally with hands-on experience as a backend/platform engineer or technical lead.
- Strong understanding of Cloud platform-based services, SRE, and DevOps principles.
- Knowledge and experience of distributed systems architecture, including micro-services.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver customer-facing products.
- Passion for coaching and mentoring to help individuals grow professionally and technically.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization.
Experience that would be great to have:
- Development experience using Java.
- Experience with MySQL or similar relational databases.
- Experience with RESTful APIs callable by web application frameworks like React.
- Distributed, service-oriented, microservices-style, and cloud-based application architecture experience. We deploy to Kubernetes running in GCP.
- Related fintech industry exposure in platforms, banking applications, or online financial solutions.

- This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.
- This role requires use of a computer and audio equipment.

Salary Range
$160,000.00 - $240,000.00
These pay ranges apply to employees in Sunnyvale, California. Pay ranges for employees in other states may differ.
