Position Summary:
ABM Industries is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to support daily building operations at a large, multi‑facility educational institution in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will perform routine maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs across electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems to ensure a safe, functional, and well‑maintained campus environment.
This position is ideal for candidates with broad maintenance experience or those looking to grow into a Building Engineer role. You will work under the guidance of a Lead Maintenance Technician and collaborate with campus staff to resolve maintenance requests, support preventative maintenance programs, and uphold service standards expected in an academic setting. This role is 100% on‑site and does not require travel between job locations.
Shift: 1st shift: 8AM to 5:00PM and requires being (on call) 3-4 time per year.
Responsibilities
- Perform general building maintenance tasks including basic electrical repairs (running wire, replacing fuses, installing outlets, switches, and fixtures).
- Conduct basic plumbing work such as using a drain snake, repairing leaks, cutting PVC, and completing minor drywall or painting repairs.
- Support HVAC upkeep by replacing filters, thermostats, belts, and assisting with routine equipment inspections.
- Complete daily work orders, preventive maintenance checklists, and service documentation accurately and on time.
- Respond to maintenance requests across a multi‑building campus environment, ensuring minimal disruption to academic operations.
- Assist with maintaining safe, clean, and code‑compliant mechanical and building spaces.
- Collaborate with campus facility teams, faculty, and staff while demonstrating strong customer service and professionalism.
- Participate in on‑call rotations approximately 3–4 times per year.
- Follow ABM safety policies, procedures, and best practices for all repair and maintenance activities.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must possess a valid, unexpired driver's license.
- Refrigeration/HVAC trade or vocational certification is highly preferred.
- 1-2 years of General Maintenance experience is preferred or formal institution education/background related to field of work.
