The Leidos Defense Group has a current opening for a Mechanical Engineer at its light industrial manufacturing site in Chesapeake, VA supporting the US NAVY’s environmental shipboard equipment. This site fabricates electro-mechanical equipment per US NAVY build-to-print drawing packages and supports the customers with spare parts and troubleshooting. The role is full cradle to grave involvement from RFQ (Request for Quote) – quote - award – material/manpower planning – fabrication/delivery schedule – financial reporting- employee oversight to program management oversight reviews/audits in an ISO-9001:2015 environment. Candidates with the qualifications are encouraged to apply immediately. The selected candidate will lead a team of three integrators in Chesapeake, VA and report to the current remote Program Manager.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Candidate will be the onsite lead for light manufacturing team engaged in all aspects of material, fabrication and quality activities and remotely supported by the program manager.
- Interaction with multi-disciplines including contracts, procurement, finance, subcontractors, engineers, and management to develop solid basis of estimates, material procurements, and fabrication schedules to meet customer delivery dates.
- Apply engineering expertise to review part obsolescence in build-to-print environment and work with NAVY customer for concurrence.
- Provide manufacturing guidance to shop technicians as questions arise (e.g., drawing interpretation, dimension and tolerance issues, inspections).
- Candidate must be a motivated self-starter who is able to multi-task and work within deadlines and must be able to smoothly transition between various projects to solve technical issues.
- Must have excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Provide accurate task completion estimates.
- Assist in material lifecycle including requisitioning, receiving, tracking, releasing, kitting, and shipping.
- Also assist with and have input to ISO 9001 objective documents, team training, receipt inspection, shipment documents, certificate of conformances, and review/resolution of material non-conformances.
- Support fabrication team administrative functions related to work orders, material releases and shipping documents.
- Lead and train technicians in equipment troubleshooting and factory acceptance testing. Responsible for integrity of factory acceptance testing documentation.
- Successful candidate will work at the 500 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA location.
Basic Qualifications Required Experience, Skills, and Education:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering with eight (8) years of professional experience or equivalent combined education/experience.
- Capable of being a member of a multi-disciplinary virtual team to pull together material, labor, and subcontractors for fabrication of build-to-print equipment.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding drawings including dimensioning and tolerancing, specifications, materials, and processes and electrical schematics. Ability to resolve obsolescence issues and get approval from US Navy customers for drawing deviations or changes.
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar equipment and processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Project and Word and Computer Aided Design (CAD) software
- Exposure to program management, financial reporting and small team leadership.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education:
- Work experience in a light manufacturing environment. Electrical panel fabrication experience a plus.
- Exposure to US NAVY shipboard systems
- Experience working in an ISO 9001 quality environment.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and testing of electro-mechanical equipment.
- Experience working with US Navy subject matter experts to assist in fleet equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Active or current U.S. DoD Secret clearance is a plus but not a requirement.
- A Professional Engineering license is a plus but not required.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
