Caterpillar’s Global Finance Services Division is seeking a Senior Director of Corporate Accounting and SEC Reporting to provide enterprise‑level leadership over the company’s global accounting, consolidation, and external reporting activities. This is a highly visible and influential role responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and transparency of Caterpillar Inc.’s consolidated financial statements and public disclosures, including judgmental and highly complex accounting estimates that materially impact reported results.
In this role, you will lead the teams responsible for the global monthly close, U.S. GAAP consolidated financial reporting, and SEC filings (Forms 10‑Q and 10‑K) for a complex, multinational, publicly traded company. You will also provide senior‑level oversight of enterprise‑wide accounting estimates and processes, including warranty reserves, post‑sale credit accruals, and intercompany profit elimination, ensuring estimates are well‑supported, consistently applied, and appropriately reflected in external reporting. As a key advisor to senior leadership, you will partner closely with Finance, Technical Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Investor Relations, and global business units to address complex accounting matters and ensure high‑quality external reporting.
This role is based in Irving, Texas and leads a team of 14 professionals, including three direct reports, and reports directly to Caterpillar’s Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer.
What You Will Do:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for Caterpillar’s corporate accounting and SEC reporting functions
- Oversee all aspects of the consolidated monthly close process for a large, global organization with complex legal entity and business structures in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Manage the enterprise warranty and post‑sale credit accrual processes, including methodology, governance, and coordination across the business
- Lead the preparation, review, and filing of quarterly and annual SEC reports (Forms 10‑Q and 10‑K), ensuring accuracy, transparency, and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate closely with Technical Accounting, Tax, and Treasury to ensure new accounting guidance is properly reflected in Caterpillar’s financial statements and SEC filings
- Partner with Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis Team, Legal, and Investor Relations on earnings releases, disclosures, and external communications
- Serve as a key leader in supporting internal and external audits, including coordination with external auditors and oversight of SOX‑related controls impacting financial reporting
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on close efficiency, standardization, automation, and data quality
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing organization of approximately 14 accounting and reporting professionals, including three direct reports
- Build a strong leadership bench through coaching, succession planning, and deliberate talent development
- Communicate effectively within the team and with internal and external customers and data providers, including presentations to all levels of management
What You Have:
- Business Acumen: Knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations
- Finance and Accounting: Knowledge of finance and accounting practices, financial analysis, and reporting; ability to apply finance knowledge appropriately to diverse situations
- Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material
- Leadership: Knowledge of leadership practices and processes; ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives while having a long-term perspective of the future state of things and how to get there
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree in Accounting or the equivalent
- 15+ years of experience in accounting roles with increasing levels of responsibility
- Strong background in consolidations, complex accounting transactions, and enterprise‑wide financial reporting processes.
- Experience in the Corporate Accounting/SEC Reporting function of a large, multinational public company
- A strong attention to detail and excellent executive communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex accounting topics.
- Proven ability to lead managers, influence senior executives, and operate effectively in a matrixed, global environment.
Top Candidates will also have:
- Professional Certification (Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA))
- Public Accounting experience is preferred
- Knowledge of the Caterpillar organization, its products, policies and procedures
Additional Information:
- The location for this position is at our Global Headquarters in Irving, Texas
- This position requires working onsite five days a week

Summary Pay Range:
$203,670.00 - $305,510.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
