Role Definition
This role manages the Black Hills Engineering Design Center facility located in Rapid City, SD and leads engineering services support teams supporting product groups located in various US & Mexico locations.
Responsibilities
- Manages all facility operations for the Black Hills Engineering Design Center located in Rapid City, SD. This includes all facility and property related functions, infrastructure, safety, security, maintenance, and daily operations to support up to 150 people. Position is first point of contact for any facility related issues 24 hrs/day, 7 days per week.
- Leads a team of approximately 100 engineering, design and service staff supporting various product groups enterprise wide located in Rapid City, Peoria area, Decatur, Aurora, Lafayette, S Milwaukee, Tucson, and Mexico.
- Caterpillar representative for local, regional and state governments and community organizations. Represents Caterpillar as needed on various boards and initiatives of interest to the Enterprise.
- Managing the engineering staff and activities with an emphasis on organizational goals achievement, professional development and continuous improvement.
- Monitoring and continuously improving product and process performance, quality and cost-effectiveness for all engineering activities and deliverables.
- Providing leadership to create and maintain processes used to design, develop and manufacture components, systems, products, services, and technologies.
- Managing engineering product and manufacturing process or quality issues, from concept through end of life-cycle.
What you will have:
- Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
- Customer/Market Focus: Understanding of the importance of remaining aware of shifting market priorities and ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a manner that consistently adds value.
- Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.
- Collaborating Globally: Knowledge of effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results.
Top Candidates Will Have:
- Requires a four year degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
- Requires ten years’ experience minimum industry experience
- Requires prior experience managing teams; ideally leading large teams (50+ people)
- Ability to travel as needed to support teams and various initiatives (<10% of time)
- Experience managing facilities and facility operations
- Experience working with government, institutions, and community groups through projects and board representation.
- Experience leading capital projects and facility improvements/expansions.
- Experience with the Caterpillar NPI/NTI process and leading projects/teams for NPI/CPI projects.

- This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Rapid City, SD

Summary Pay Range:
$172,630.00 - $258,950.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
