This is a full-time, grant-funded position with funding secured for an initial three-year term, and IALR is committed to pursuing additional funding to sustain this role and the important work it supports.
How You Will Help the Team
In support of IALR’s economic transformation mission, the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator plays a key role in expanding high-quality work-based learning opportunities that strengthen the regional talent pipeline and meet employer needs. This role builds strong partnerships with educators, employers, and community stakeholders to ensure students and participants gain meaningful, paid, real-world experiences that prepare them for career success.
With a focus on Caswell County, Pittsylvania County, and Danville City, you will help scale internships, job shadowing, teacher externships, and other experiential learning models that directly support workforce development across the region.
What You Will Do
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with industry and educational partners to design, implement, and scale paid internships, job-shadowing experiences, and other work-based learning opportunities.
• Coordinate all facets of assigned work-based learning programs, including program design, employer and participant recruitment, orientations, and ongoing program support.
• Collaborate with partners to deliver work-readiness training and ongoing participant supports that lead to successful program completion.
• Partner with K–12 school divisions to increase and sustain student use of the MajorClarity online career exploration platform and post work-based learning opportunities.
• Monitor trends, best practices, and policies related to work-based learning to ensure programs remain current and effective.
• Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal program requirements and assist with required financial and programmatic reporting.
• Represent the Advanced Learning Department at meetings, events, trainings, and professional development activities.
• Share program information through presentations, meetings, civic engagements, and media in collaboration with IALR’s Communications Department.
• Work collaboratively across all IALR divisions to support departmental goals and the organization’s strategic plan.
QualificationsYour Knowledge and Expertise
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: business services, K–12 education (formal or informal), postsecondary education, or workforce training.
• Experience coordinating programs, meetings, or events; workforce or training program management experience preferred.
• Understanding of internship or experiential learning programming, with the ability to identify and mitigate risk when working with vulnerable populations.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking experience.
• Proven ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal teams, external partners, and the public.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and can work with minimal supervision.
• Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel throughout Virginia and occasionally out of state.
