About the Role
The New Rochelle Public Library (NRPL) is seeking a dedicated, service-driven Librarian II to help coordinate and deliver high-quality library services across departments and branches. This leadership role supports the Library’s mission of equitable access, lifelong learning, and community engagement by ensuring efficient operations, exceptional patron service, and a positive staff culture.
Reporting to a Librarian III (Department Head), the Librarian II helps manage daily operations, supervises staff, and collaborates with the Library’s leadership team to implement policies, develop collections, and enhance the user experience.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee daily operations of an assigned branch or department, ensuring smooth delivery of reference, readers’ advisory, and information services.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate librarians, library assistants, volunteers and other staff fostering teamwork and accountability.
- Provide excellent customer service and model professional, inclusive public service.
- Participate in collection development, including selection, weeding, and usage analysis.
- Support the development and implementation of library policies and service standards.
- Use data and metrics to inform decision-making, assess services, and prepare reports.
- Collaborate with other departments to address operational challenges and improve workflows.
- Serve as Librarian in Charge when the Librarian III or Leadership is unavailable.
- Participate in library-wide committees and contribute to organizational planning.
What We’re Looking For
- Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution (required).
- Two (2) years of professional librarian experience post-MLS, preferably in a public library.
- Proven supervisory and leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of library operations, ILS systems (Evergreen preferred), and public service best practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse staff and patron base.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and emerging library technologies.
Preferred
- Experience managing or coordinating library services or branch operations.
- Familiarity with data-driven assessment and reporting.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in library services.
