Job Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
As a MineStar Performance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of mining performance tools and data enabled solutions. This role sits at the intersection of mining operations, performance methodology, and technology development, ensuring that emerging tools are grounded in real world problem statements and deliver tangible customer back value.
The primary focus of this position is to act as a subject matter expert, working closely with developers and engineering teams to ensure performance tools are relevant, practical, and impactful. You will help translate operational reality into clear requirements, validate assumptions against site conditions, and provide continuous feedback to close the loop between design, deployment, and improvement.
Your work will support an initial toolset focused on identifying and troubleshooting repeated, high impact performance loss drivers, operating in a closed loop with Artificial Intelligence enablement. You will also help ensure that data enablement solutions and performance tools are technically and operationally ready to integrate into broader site platforms and MineStar solutions.
Beyond customer impact, this role will partner closely with engineering teams to ensure that performance tools provide objective, comparable insights that enable product teams to identify, prioritize, and sequence improvements that deliver the highest product value.
Why This Role Is Exciting
Blend of site engagement, performance analysis, and technology enablement.
High level of influence across operations, product, and engineering teams.
Opportunity to shape how performance problems are identified, framed, and solved at scale.
Exposure to diverse mining operations, technologies, and maturity levels.
Direct contribution to tools and platforms that inform both customer outcomes and product direction.
What You Will Do
Act as a subject matter expert for mining performance, providing operational context and validation to developers and engineering teams.
Partner with customers, internal teams, and performance hubs to identify recurring, high impact performance loss drivers.
Translate real world operational challenges into clear problem statements, requirements, and use cases for performance tools.
Support the design, validation, and evolution of performance tools to ensure practical applicability and customer back value.
Contribute to closed loop workflows that connect performance insights, knowledge systems, and continuous improvement actions.
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure tools deliver objective, comparable insights that support product improvement decisions.
Support performance investigations, site assessments, and technology evaluations as required.
Operate with a high degree of autonomy, managing priorities across multiple stakeholders and initiatives.
Travel to mine sites and partner locations as needed to maintain strong operational grounding.
What Skills You Will Have
Operational and Performance Expertise: Strong understanding of mining operations, productivity principles, and performance improvement methodologies. Ability to connect site reality with analytical and technology driven solutions.
Technology and Systems Thinking: Comfortable working at the interface of operations, data, and tools. Able to reason about how performance tools fit within broader technology ecosystems without being tool specific.
Problem Framing and Translation: Ability to take ambiguous, complex operational challenges and translate them into structured, actionable problem statements and requirements.
Communication and Influence: Strong ability to communicate across technical, operational, and leadership audiences. Comfortable influencing without direct authority.
Continuous Improvement Mindset: Curious, methodical, and focused on learning, validation, and sustained performance impact.
Top Candidates Will Also Have
Degree in Mining Engineering, Automation Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
Experience working with MineStar solutions or equivalent mining technology systems.
Exposure to performance studies, operational readiness, or technology validation programs.
Experience collaborating with product, engineering, or analytics teams.
