Toyota Racing Development (TRD) is seeking a Vehicle Model Based Development Engineer to join our team. We are dedicated to advancing automotive engineering and maximizing racetrack performance, and this role is integral to our pursuit of becoming the most respected motorsports engineering organization.
This role focuses mainly on the development of software applications built in Simulink to communicate between our simulation environment and our motion simulators. This position will be responsible for the development and continuous improvement of DIL simulator technologies, including hardware systems, controls, visuals, real-time simulation, and workflow applications.
Key Responsibilities
Develop software applications and communications logic in Simulink for features such as driver controls, dash displays, data systems and telemetry, visuals, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) ECUs.
Integrate new features and functionalities, requiring testing and validation on motion simulators.
Lead the testing phase of our monthly vehicle model update cycle.
Act as a main point of contact for engineering support, including troubleshooting, training, and request fulfillment for simulator-related inquiries.
Contribute to long-term development projects to advance our simulator technologies, utilizing cutting-edge hardware and software.
Continuously improve the immersion and realism of the driving experience.
Maintain calibrated functionality of the DIL simulator and all subsystems.
Serve as a key point of contact for software troubleshooting and diagnostic investigations.
Collaborate with race teams during simulator sessions.
Qualifications
A successful candidate will have:
BS or higher in engineering or a related discipline.
Practical experience in modeling using Simulink and MATLAB.
Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, UDP, EtherCAT, and network.
Experience in developing hardware/controls systems.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and hands-on expertise.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other engineering disciplines.
Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
Comfortable in a fast-paced working environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with PLC systems (Siemens, Beckhoff/TwinCAT, B&R, etc.).
Experience in real-time simulation environments.
Experience in writing and troubleshooting code written in Python and C#.
Familiar with data analysis workflow and software (Atlas, MoTec, PI, etc.).
Experience in the automotive or motorsports industry.
Understanding of vehicle dynamics and performance.
