Program Summary
KBR maintains and manages Army prepositioned stocks at the Army Field Support Battalion - Charleston (AFSBn-CHS) land site to include all logistics and maintenance operations. The KBR APS-3 Program is managed and executed at Goose Creek in support of the Army’s power projection doctrine and resources. The contract provides maintenance of APS-3 stocks (Class II, IIIP, IV, VII, IX) to ensure that unit sets are configured and maintained at optimal readiness. KBR also provides maintenance services and logistical support for other Army programs, IAW individual scope of work contract requirements.
Job Summary
The Gunsmith II will be responsible for Inspecting, repairing, rebuilding, overhauling and Armament functions in one or more of the following commodities: pistols, rifles, automatic weapons, and other arms, as well as other types of weapon’s systems or other equipment maintained on APS-3 program with minimal supervision.
Roles and Responsibilities
Repairs and alters firearms to blueprint standards and client specifications using hand tools, grinders planers, millers, etc. Installs, repairs or replaces parts such as gun sights, pistol grips, recoil pads, decorative pieces using screws and hand tools. Rebores barrels as needed. Fabricates and/or refinishes wooden stocks to client specifications. Tests and recalibrate firearms as necessary.
Has a thorough understanding of firearm operation principles, machine tools and equipment; inspects for accuracy in workmanship relating to the following:
Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; proper performance of PMCS and corrective maintenance.
Inspects for serviceability of parts and the action of weapons during cycling; consults with the Section Lead in all facets concerning the Armament Repair Section, such as, but not limited to, weapons, mounts, suppressors, optic systems including NVDs, prototype development and reverse engineering projects; performs modifications, safety of use messages (SOUMs), maintenance advisory messages (MAMs) and engineering changes; ensures proper use of automated maintenance systems and the accurate completion of documentation related to maintenance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Maintain OPSEC
Ability to work from technical manuals, work instructions and work orders
Thoroughly conduct technical inspections and properly list and document faults
Sufficient troubleshooting of equipment, diagnosing source of trouble and determining repairs required
Proper performance of PMCS and corrective maintenance
Conduct work in a safe manner, always executing safety
Conducting physical security, inventory and always maintain integrity
Basic Qualifications (Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
You must possess a valid State Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass initial drug screening
Must have Favorable background check
Must have 5 years’ experience in directly relevant work
Must have a certificate of training from vocational school or other recognized source with a major study in gunsmithing, small arms repair course, or other related field
Must have the ability to comply with all established methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Must have the ability to interpret and apply technical instruction, schematics, and diagrams
In lieu of formal course work, a combination of college credits, on-the-job training, other formalized training, or experience may be considered
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand - between 2 to 3 hours per day.
Must be able to walk - between 4 to 5 hours per day.
Must be able to Lift - up to 35 lbs. – 50 lbs. periodically.
Must be able to squat, knell, bend, reach and climb periodically.
Must be able to work outside and inside in non-climate-controlled environments.
Preferred Qualifications (Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)
Completion of the Unit Armored Course or Equivalent.
Military weapon systems knowledge (C.R.O.W.S, Mortar Fire Control system, Stowage Kit, Howitzer’s).
G-Army experience with certifications
Forklift certifications
