Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Corporate Shared Services Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Principal Engineer Data Analytics.
The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the design, development, and governance of a secure AWS platform while managing a cross-functional analytics team to deliver quantifiable economic benefits through advanced data modeling and business intelligence.
Reporting to the Manager – Systems, Data & Automation, the person in this role will support the CSS Projects Support department's objective to optimize cloud expenses, reduce reliance on external vendors, and accelerate data-driven decision-making across the organization.
What you’ll be doing
Manage a cross-functional analytics team, providing direction for architecture, design, development, and implementation.
Lead the design and expansion of the CSS data architecture, driving initiatives to enhance capabilities across AWS environments, and near real-time analytics.
Serve as the primary owner of the CSS data governance policy, supporting data security, access control, and data lifecycle policies in partnership with enterprise IT.
Meet with business stakeholders to gather technical requirements, consult on long-term roadmaps, and provide high value-added recommendations for complex business issues.
Create, maintain, and oversee high-performing ELT/ETL processes and databases to ensure reliable and efficient data delivery.
Extract insights using predictive modeling, cluster analysis, and visualization techniques to solve complex business problems and drive internal monetization.
Oversee the creation and maintenance of scalable, automated reporting frameworks to ensure timely and accurate data delivery.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex data sets into clear, concise reports and dashboards.
Lead troubleshooting and performance tuning of data pipelines and analytics systems.
Drive innovation in data processing, storage, and analytics using cloud-native and big data technologies.
Manage mid-size, cross-functional projects independently, developing procedures and offering creative solutions within broad organizational policies.
What you bring
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
7+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or related roles.
Proven leadership skills with experience managing projects and guiding consultant teams to successful outcomes.
Proven expertise in designing and implementing large-scale data platforms and pipelines.
Strong proficiency with SQL, Python, or other relevant programming languages.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, etc.).
Deep understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing concepts.
Familiarity with BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and data visualization’s best practices.
Experience with data governance, security, and compliance frameworks.
Experience meeting with business stakeholders to define requirements, provide status updates, and support business needs.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Added bonus if you have
Advanced degree in a related technical or business field.
Proficiency with object-oriented programming languages such as GOLANG, R, Java, Scala, or C++.
Experience managing cloud budgets, optimizing AWS compute/storage costs, and implementing FinOps practices.
Experience with machine learning pipelines and MLOps.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
