Metal Spray Operator

Working at our Cincinnati Aviation Component Service Center:
Our ACSC facility develops and conducts a wide array of engine component repairs – including rotating parts, complex assemblies and nozzles on 29 different engine models.
Role Overview:
The thermal spray operator must be proficient in all aspects of the coating process including masking / unmasking.
- The ability to set-up and operate various forms of coating equipment and processes which include wire guns, ceramic rod, thermal spray powder, plasma spray and high velocity oxygen fuel.
- Also must be proficient in the use of supporting process equipment ranging from fully automatic (robotic and CNC), semi-automatic to hand held apparatus.
- Must have sufficient knowledge to know when equipment is performing properly and have the ability to isolate equipment components and replace them.
- Perform periodic minor maintenance to assure equipment is in top operating condition.
- Also be involved in development of parameters for new coatings.
- Be able to work from blueprints, sketches, written and/or verbal instructions; knowledge of testing devices, superficial hardness tester and profilometer.
- Operate to required levels of quality, efficiency and safety.
- Direct the efforts of others and work with a minimum amount of supervision.
- Complete all necessary paperwork, conduct some testing and perform other related duties.
- Must pass a written examination as well as spraying test of samples per GE specifications.
- Must certify to a level above specification after 6 months of training and every (6) months thereafter.
- Previous experience reading, interpreting, and working from shop manuals and blue prints while receiving verbal instructions.
- Mechanical ability and extensive exposure to jobshop working environment.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Must be able to do shop math, including fractions, decimals, proportions, and algebraic expressions.
- Experience operating various hand and power tools and basic machine tools and equipment such as files, grinders, etc.
- Ability to do shop math, including fractions, decimals, proportions, and algebraic expressions.
- Ability to work in a noisy, hot and abrasive environment and wear appropriate safety gear such as eye protection, respirator, safety shoes, gloves and shop coat for extended periods of time.
- Able to work with a minimum amount of supervision and direct or instruct the efforts of others on appropriate metal spray practices.
- Possesses basic computer skills, applications and keyboarding as necessary.
- This role may encounter high risk or hazardous operations and/or include working shifts beyond a standard workweek. As such, a requirement of the role is to be at least 18 years of age by the time of joining.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Possess basic mechanical aptitude and ability to understand and operate highly technical equipment including closed-loop plasma equipment, robots and CNC equipment.
- Capable of certifying to GE specifications on a variety of spray-deposited coatings.
- Must be knowledgeable in pre and post coating processes such as cleaning, masking, surface preparation techniques and inspection.
- Previous experience in set-up and spraying of a variety of complicated coatings and geometries using a number of spray processes and supporting equipment.
- Ability to learn and operate material handling and lifting devices
- Proficient in the use of various types of standard measuring instruments, such as OD and ID micrometers, depth gauge, height gauge, vernier calipers, and others
