As a National Security Solutions – Software Engineering Intern:
- Support analysis of radar, sensor, or similar system data, including preprocessing, noise removal, and feature extraction. Implement and evaluate computer vision or image‑processing algorithms, potentially involving object detection, tracking, or image enhancement (if background allows).
- Assist with simulation, modeling, or data‑driven studies related to aerospace or mechanical engineering concepts (e.g., kinematic relationships, sensor geometries).
- Develop, test, and validate algorithms that use vector math, including dot/cross products, coordinate frame transformations, and geometric projections.
- Perform basic digital signal processing (DSP) tasks such as filtering, Fourier analysis, and time–frequency characterization using MATLAB or Python.
- Contribute to the design or improvement of graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for internal tools using MATLAB App Designer, Python frameworks, or other UI technologies.
- Document code, results, and methodology clearly to support team collaboration and future reuse.
- Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot software or algorithm issues, iterating solutions from initial concept to tested implementation.
- Present progress in team meetings and provide written summaries of findings, ensuring technical clarity and attention to detail.
- Work both independently and as part of a small technical team, taking ownership of assigned tasks and driving them to completion.
Selected interns for this paid opportunity will be provided with the opportunity to mentor with experienced professionals, gain experience and establish a name for themselves in this high demand career field.
Required Skillset:
- Full‑time rising junior, senior, or graduate student pursuing a degree in a science or engineering field (e.g., Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mathematics).
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB for data analysis, modeling, and basic algorithm development.
- Solid understanding of vector math, including dot products, cross products, coordinate transformations, and geometric projections.
- Strong problem‑solving ability with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a technical team environment.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail.
Preferred Skillset:
- Familiarity with aerospace or mechanical modeling concepts, such as coordinate frames, rigid‑body kinematics, or sensor geometry.
- Hands‑on experience with signal processing, especially in radar systems, RF sensing, or similar domains.
- Exposure to computer vision techniques, such as image filtering, object detection/tracking, or CNN‑based machine learning methods.
- Experience developing or enhancing graphical user interfaces (GUIs) using tools such as MATLAB App Designer, GUIDE, Tkinter, PyQt, or similar frameworks.
- Prior work with algorithm visualization, data dashboards, or information display design.
- Demonstrated interest in applied engineering problems, sensing technologies, or algorithm development.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: Average 40 hours per week, 10 weeks in duration during the period of Summer 2026
Requirement:
- Must pass a Security Pre-Screen and have the ability to obtain a security clearance.
