KBR is looking for a Senior Technical Advisor – Process Controls and Instrumentation who will be responsible for the design, specification and services related to control systems including process control systems (basic and complex), safety systems, analyzer systems, field instrumentation, etc. Conceives and develops creative/innovative technology critical to the company's success. An individual at this level may be an individual expert or consultant who is recognized as a national and /or international authority and leader in an area of engineering or scientific interest and is characterized by their demonstrated ability to conceive of and develop creative/innovative technology critical to the company's success.
Functional job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Serve as technical expert on the areas of process controls, automation, instrumentation and plant safety interlock systems for KBR process technologies (Ammonia and Hydrogen, Refining, Olefins, Chemicals, Critical Minerals, etc.).
Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for process controls and automation, with deep process know-how in Petrochemical, Refinery, and Ammonia plants.
Collaborate with Client and team members to troubleshoot, resolve, and deliver high quality automation solution
Provide expertise in developing control philosophies, safeguarding and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)/(SIL) strategies, automation architecture, and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle including BED/FEED, Revamps, detailed engineering, commissioning, and start-up.
Develop control strategies for existing and new process technologies.
Oversee basic engineering projects, including P&ID development, complex loop narratives, cause and effect diagrams, interlock narratives, instrument selection and alarm summaries. Approval may be required for few critical deliverables.
Support client interactions during P&ID reviews, HAZOPs, SIL reviews, FATs, SATs, vendor shop inspections, site support and project start-ups.
Provide technical guidance within the department and promote effective interdisciplinary communication including development of technical scope and budget for proposals.
Ensure projects meet schedule, quality, and budget requirements and suggest improvements for project handling and work processes.
Awareness of updates in international codes and standards
Collaboration with all cross functional disciplines for client project needs, proposals and others functional requirements.
Instrumentation and Control system vendor interaction in USA and Other Geographical locations.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
The role requires approximately 20% international and local travel.
Minimum education requirement is a Bachelor’s/ master’s degree in engineering or technology preferably in Instrumentation & Control Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
The position demands 20+ years of experience, with at least 15 years in related process controls and instrumentation, particularly in Ammonia, Refining, and Olefins sectors.
Good knowledge about overall process of Olefin, ammonia, and refining.
Demonstrate deep technical knowledge in the areas of controls, instrumentation (inline and offline) as well as DCS (Distributed Control Systems) and SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems)
Experience with Basic Engineering Packages, FEED, detailed engineering, commissioning, and start-up support for controls, instrumentation, and interlock systems.
Experience with DCS control tuning and advanced controls is considered an advantage.
Knowledge and clarity on material requisitions, technical specifications, instrument data sheets, vendor offer reviews, technical bid evaluations, and vendor print reviews.
Good Knowledge of Instrument sizing.
Good knowledge of materials used in instrumentation applications and international codes and standards.
Ability to lead engineering teams, manage project hours and resources effectively, and communicate efficiently with other KBR centers and global clients.
Strong interpersonal skills with a cooperative attitude and conflict resolution abilities, teamwork orientation, and commitment to project success.
This comprehensive role demands a highly experienced professional capable of providing expert technical guidance and leadership in instrumentation and control systems within the petrochemical and refining industries, ensuring project success through innovation, collaboration, and adherence to international standards.
Lead and guide engineering teams across all KBR offices. Training Engineers for Technical development. Develop Work processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
