The Building Construction Products Division (BCP) Electrical & Electronics Engineering team is hiring for Engineering Manager in Clayton, NC!
Role Summary: As an Engineering manager you will provide technical direction and supervision to management and salaried personnel and engage in design, development, or research activities related to electrical systems design. You will be accountable for meeting electrical and electronics systems requirements and meeting compliance and regulations requirements by working with internal Caterpillar partners. You will be responsible for defining technical specifications, performing FMEAs, leading design and development, and leading validation and certification efforts for new product introduction and maintenance objectives. You will be accountable to meet objectives of new product introduction over the full cycle of machine development. You will be tasked to recruit new personnel. You will need to mentor and coach your direct reports and ensure they comply to terms of employment. You will need to create and manage requests for agency engineers and ensure the agency engineers have the access and resources to allow them to be effective.
What You’ll Do (Job Duties)
- Managing various levels of engineers, technologists, and support personnel in one geographic location.
- Providing project leadership and technical direction to new machine development programs for 60% of his/her time and engaging in supervision for tasks and technical development of direct reports for the remaining 40% of his/her time.
- Managing program risk due to technical challenges and delays.
- Coaching the work group to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, suppliers, other cross functional groups, and internal customers.
- Executing on division and enterprise strategies for the best outcome from a customer and organization, considering single technologies, machine systems, components, products, and processes.
- Maintaining product release plans and material plans; driving programs to completion on time and within budget.
- Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
What You Have (Core Skills)
- Degree requirement: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.

- Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.
- Collaborating Globally: Knowledge of effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results.
- Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Top Candidates Will Also Have
- Foundational product development skills such as conceptual design, development of product and/or process, data analysis & extraction, failure resolution & prevention.
- Knowledge of more than one engineering function, technology, component, system, product, or process is required. This role requires that the incumbent demonstrates understanding of product technology and the customers’ business and needs.
- Demonstrates a penchant for innovation, initiative, people development, and interpersonal skills.
- Possesses experience in design of electrical systems and/or wiring harnesses on machines or vehicles.
- Displays comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar Inc.; its products and services; its internal systems, processes, and procedures; and a general understanding of Caterpillar’s external customers, competitors, and market influencers.

Summary Pay Range:
$147,760.00 - $221,640.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
