Summary: The Toolmaker will be responsible for designing, assembling, and machining projects consistent with all department objectives and executing project completion dates. Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists’ hand tools.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate’s degree in a technical field preferred
- Completion of an apprenticeship preferred
- Tool & Die Certificate a plus
Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of on-the-job experience required, inclusive of extensive working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic skills.
- Minimum two years’ machine shop experience
- Lathes, mills, surface grinder, arc welders, CNC equipment, custom designed machinery, precision measuring instruments, electrical system detection, metal forming equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic systems
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to use precision machines and inspection tools to hold tolerances to plus or minus .001 and identify non-conforming parts for disposition
- Must be able to set up and operate all types of tool room machine and equipment related to the trade and instruct other toolmaker associates in their use to include but not limited to Wire EDM, grinders, honing, CNC and conventional Mills and Lathes, drill press, hole popper
- Proficiently reads blueprints, sketches, models and specifications to plan sequences of operations for tools or assemblies
- Knowledge of production machines and operations
- Ability to perform basic shop calculations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, speeds, and feeds of machinery
- Intermediate understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related software.
- Light CNC programming skills with CAD/CAM software
- Learn quickly and adapt to new equipment and procedures
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, fabricate, repair, and maintain special purpose equipment, tools, molds, jigs, and fixtures required for the manufacture and processing of outgoing products
- Operates PC units in conjunction with CNC machinery and CAD design related software applications
- Recommend improvements in production methods, working to reduce costs and improve quality of manufacturing whenever possible, to obtain quality objectives
- Works with sales, production and engineering to accommodate customers with special requests through Rapid Release process
- Fabricate prototype parts and molds to engineering or customer requirements
- Design, fabricate and modify mold tooling for efficient use in existing equipment
- Manufacture inspection and functional gauges to integrity departments specifications
- Plan and layout work in accordance with new product or process design requirements, working in conjunction with engineering as appropriate
- Design and build special purpose machinery, including any electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic systems as required in construction of these machines
- Comply with all quality assurance procedures and policies to ensure best quality product output
- Knowledgeable of, adheres to and complies with the Company’s policies and procedures
- Maintains continuous training to keep current with updated technology
- Follows good housekeeping practices and assures a clean and safe working environment
- Must demonstrate commitment to safety & continual improvement of Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) performance, registered standards, company policy, integrity, ethics, and legal compliance
- Keeps supervisor and leads informed of work conditions and personnel movement.

Pay Range: $36.00 - $38.00 per hour
Bonus Eligible: This position is eligible to earn a discretionary bonus based on performance metrics and other criteria outlined in our applicable bonus plan.
