About IPSD:
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary
As the Manufacturing Engineer, you will function independently or as part of a team and be involved in the maintenance and improvement of processes and systems used in the assembly of generators ranging from 35kW to 850kW in sizes. Functions generally fall within the major areas of planning, tooling, maintenance, plant engineering, releasing, assembly, and constraint management.
What You Will Do:
Develop, analyze, and manage manufacturing and assembly projects. Troubleshoot day-to-day process problems, initiate solutions, and follow-up to evaluate change effectiveness to ensure practical cleaning, assembly, testing, storing, packing, and moving of production material.
Determine and design processes utilizing industry best practices that align with the process takt time to produce high quality generators safely with the desired throughput.
Lead and support continuous improvement activities impacting assembly, audit validation, ISO requirements and root cause analysis.
Engage in creative problem solving to address operational issues including ergonomic/safety, process efficiency improvements utilizing project methodologies (E.g., 6 Sigma Green Belt), process bottlenecks, and quality (E.g., Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), PPAP).
Coordinate and lead tool design reviews, manufacturing processes, cost estimates, systems planning, layout, standards, and releasing with stakeholders, including estimates, acquisitions, fabrication, and repair.
Analyze engineering change notices, determine part or process changes, initiate, and implement changes.
Work with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage capital projects to ensure efficient and cost-effective systems and processes are implemented to produce quality products.
Analyze and recommend current and future systems, procedures, training, and equipment needs based upon understanding and user communication. Determine new equipment acceptability based on usage requirements and recommend modifications or revisions as necessary.
Support the assembly process, including New Product Introduction (NPI), to ensure that processes/changes are designed for manufacturability and released on time
Adhere to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc. in performing assigned duties.
What You Will Have:
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Summary Pay Range:
$89,210.00 - $133,810.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
