Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.
We are looking for top talent to build and scale the next generation of technologies, products and services to help our customers build a better—more sustainable—world. We need self-motivated, intelligent and team-oriented individuals to make our plans a reality. Individuals with high emotional intelligence, humility and openness to discovery will thrive in the teams we are building.
Job Summary:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for mechanical design control and product-level ownership for the Modular Power Conditioning System (MPCS). This role focuses on maintaining design integrity for the current product while actively contributing to the concepting and mechanical architecture of next generation power conversion products. This position goes beyond detailing or sustaining work. The engineer serves as a US-based design authority for mechanical aspects of MPCS cabinets and modules, ensuring solutions are robust, manufacturable, serviceable, and scalable to Phase 2 and Gen2 products.
In this role, you will work closely with Electrical Systems & Architecture, Power Electronics & Controls and Program / NPI Execution
What You Will Do:
Support mechanical design and development of MPCS cabinet and module assemblies, including layout, enclosure architecture, structural elements, and mechanical interfaces across Phase 1, Phase 2, and Gen2 designs.
Maintain mechanical requirements and interfaces across product variants, ensuring designs align with system intent and established standards.
Assist with impact assessment and resolution of mechanical design changes, deviations, and build or field issues in collaboration with senior engineers.
Review CAD models, drawings, and engineering change notices (ECNs) to ensure design accuracy, completeness, and standards compliance.
Ensure mechanical designs meet thermal, structural, ingress protection (IP), safety, and serviceability requirements, while supporting electrical clearances, cable routing, cooling paths, and module access.
Contribute to early mechanical concept development for Gen2 MPCS and future power conversion products.
Develop and evaluate mechanical concepts with consideration for scalability, manufacturability, assembly strategy, installation, and field service constraints.
Support mechanical trade studies (e.g., size, weight, cooling approach, modularity) and help document design decisions and rationale.
Participate in system-level design reviews and cross-functional integration discussions with electrical, systems, and manufacturing teams.
Support contract manufacturing partners during prototype builds and production ramp, including participation in DFM/DFA reviews and build readiness activities.
Collaborate with global engineering teams (e.g., offshore mechanical detailing support) while following established design authority and approval processes.
Capture lessons learned from builds, validation testing, and field feedback, and apply them to continuous design improvements.
Contribute to the development of repeatable mechanical architectures that support future product platforms.
What You Will Have:
Analytical Thinking: Extensive experience and knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Effective Communications: Working knowledge and understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Managing Multiple Priorities: Working knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
Technical Excellence: Working knowledge knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. Strong experience in mechanical design for industrial or power electronics products, including enclosure and cabinet design. Strong understanding of structural design, thermal considerations and serviceability and installation constraints. Experience supporting manufacturing, proto builds or production issues.
Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Extensive experience and knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
Product Design - MFG: Extensive experience and knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
Product Testing: Working knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
Degree Requirement:
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Creo experience
Experience concepting new hardware products or major platform updates.
Familiarity with power conversion systems, switchgear, or energy storage products.
Ability to translate vague requirements into concrete mechanical concepts.
Comfortable working in an evolving product environment with ambiguous inputs.
Experience collaborating across disciplines (EE, Controls, Manufacturing).
