Systems/Solution Architect
KBR, Inc., located in Cambridge, MA, is seeking a Lead System/Solution Architect to join our Mission Information Technology team assisting the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Volpe Center. The successful candidate will serve as the technical lead and architect, partnering with business stakeholders, customers and project team to define the overall solution architecture, provide technical guidance, and ensure the successful delivery of robust and forward-thinking digital solutions (Re: releases, enhancements, impact etc.) This position allows for a remote/hybrid schedule one day a week.
**Selected candidate must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance**
Responsibilities:
The Lead System Architect is a challenging senior position that requires deep expertise in technology (re: Low code/No code/AI, Angular, Nodejs etc.), mastery of solution design, and a wide range of cross-disciplinary knowledge in business applications, data, hardware, and external system interfaces. This role encompasses:
- A blend technical depth, architectural thinking, and customer consulting.
- Architecture & Governance: Defining the overall structure, characteristics, and behavior of the software solution, ensuring alignment with strategic directions, enterprise architectures, and principles.
- Technical Leadership: Providing authoritative technical direction and governance to the development team, mentoring System Architects, and overseeing all phases of the SDLC.
- Design & Development: Accountable for the end-to-end delivery of digital systems, including the design of complex application features, user stories, and system specifications.
- Best Practices: Drive the adoption of Pega best practices, design standards, and high-level requirements across cross-functional teams.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Working closely with partners inside and outside IT and across business communities to assess technology requirements, identify, and support technology solutions. Works in conjunction with applications, security, legal, compliance, operations, engineering, and other areas, as necessary.
- Complex Integration: Specializing in the integration of complex external system interfaces and data sources.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in application design and development.
- 4+ years of experience operating in a Lead System Architect (LSA) or equivalent technical leadership role with a large-scale project.
- Demonstrated experience designing high-volume, scalable, and resilient enterprise applications.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post-graduate degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
- Certifications or significant work experience designing solutions and working with a cross-section of business and technology resources.
- Prior experience leading a development team through the entire lifecycle of multiple implementations.
Nice to have:
- Understanding of Pega Cloud and deployment strategies.
- Experience designing and implementing custom, decoupled front-ends by leveraging the Pega DX API/SDK to integrate Pega business logic and data with external web frameworks.
