Job Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
As a Value Chain Designer, you won’t just improve processes, you will shape how products move from concept to customer across a global enterprise. This highly visible role sits at the intersection of strategy, data, and execution, partnering with leaders across engineering, purchasing, supply chain, manufacturing, operations, and quality to drive end‑to‑end improvement. You’ll develop and evolve network value‑stream models that influence critical decisions, uncover waste, and elevate cost, delivery, and customer performance. From diagnosing complex system‑level challenges to executing transformation initiatives, no two projects are the same. If you thrive on variety, strategic impact, and seeing your work translate into real, measurable results, this role offers unmatched scope and influence.
What You’ll Do
Lead and coordinate cross‑functional Module Teams, partnering across Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Suppliers to drive value chain performance.
Develop and maintain end‑to‑end network value‑stream models that represent current‑state and future‑state value chain configurations across a global product line.
Acquire, integrate, and analyze data from multiple corporate systems to model physical flows, process variability, transit times, and delivery performance.
Iterate network models to evaluate proposed business scenarios and support value chain performance project management.
Serve as the functional expert in value stream modeling, optimization, modular design, and implementation management.
Translate modeling results into clear business insights, visuals, and recommendations to support operational and strategic decision‑making.
Participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), including production and aftermarket planning, to help shape inventory and resource plans.
Support continuous improvement across the value chain by identifying opportunities, solving problems, and implementing data‑driven solutions.
Strengthen alignment between logistics and manufacturing activities while driving collaboration across the enterprise value chain network.
Maintain and advance enterprise capabilities in network modeling processes, platforms, and techniques.
What Makes This Role Exciting
You influence decisions across the entire value chain—from suppliers and manufacturing to distribution partners and the end customer.
Your work directly shapes future‑state network strategies, helping the business optimize cost, quality, delivery, and customer experience.
You operate at the intersection of data, strategy, and execution, turning complex modeling into real‑world impact.
You collaborate with diverse, high‑impact teams across engineering, operations, supply chain, and external partners.
You play a key role in S&OP and Business Cycle Management, influencing both current and future points‑in‑cycle.
You become a recognized enterprise expert in value stream modeling and optimization, building capabilities that scale across Caterpillar.
Your insights enable continuous improvement and smarter, faster decisions that improve performance across a global network.
