Job Overview & Responsibilities
At ULA, the Systems Infrastructure Leader is responsible for defining and executing the strategy, operations, and daily management of the enterprise systems infrastructure. This leader oversees a multi‑disciplinary team of Windows and Linux engineers and solution architects, ensuring the delivery of secure, reliable, and scalable services across both on‑premises and cloud environments. The role sets technical and operational priorities, drives engineering discipline, develops and mentors talent, and ensures high‑quality support and solution delivery. Success in this position requires close partnership with architecture, network, security, application, and business teams to enhance service reliability, modernize infrastructure, expand automation, and guide sound technology decisions. This is a hands‑on leadership role that demands strong people management skills, technical credibility, and solid operational judgment.
Responsibilities:
- Drive down organizational costs
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of systems engineers and solution architects supporting Windows, Linux, hybrid infrastructure, automation, and cloud operations.
- Set team priorities, assign work, manage workload, and ensure alignment to business and IT objectives.
- Own day-to-day infrastructure operations, including service reliability, lifecycle management, patching, monitoring, incident response, root cause follow-through, and operational readiness.
- Build a culture of accountability, professionalism, technical excellence, documentation, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with peers across network, security, applications, service management, and architecture to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.
- Drive infrastructure modernization initiatives, including standardization, automation, infrastructure as code, platform hardening, and operational simplification.
- Provide leadership for project delivery, operational escalations, change management, and production risk reduction.
- Establish and monitor service metrics, team performance expectations, operational health indicators, and improvement plans.
- Support evaluation of new technologies, platforms, and tooling, and translate business needs into practical infrastructure decisions.
- Perform core people-leader responsibilities including hiring, performance management, coaching, employee development, recognition, corrective action, and workforce planning.
- Ensure team documentation, technical standards, support procedures, and knowledge transfer are current and usable.
- Communicate clearly with technical teams, leaders, customers, and stakeholders during both routine operations and high-pressure events.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university
- 5+ years leading technical teams (15+), including performance management, prioritization, and employee development
- Experience managing hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud) supporting Windows and Linux servers
- Strong background in IT operations: incidents, changes, patching, upgrades, availability, and service improvemen
- Experience with automation, scripting, and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform)
- Familiarity with monitoring, incident management, change control, and documentation tools
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and core infrastructure services (compute, storage, virtualization, identity, backup, monitoring)
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives across architecture, operations, security, and business teams
- Strong communication skills with the ability to guide teams, manage escalations, and present to leadership
- Ability to prioritize across projects, operations, and unplanned work in complex environments
- Skilled in assessing risk, reliability, scalability, and security impacts of technical decisions
- Experience leading technical reviews, driving architecture discussions, and standardization efforts
- Demonstrated sound judgment under pressure and commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement
- Strong leadership, collaboration, accountability, and professional presence with stakeholder
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading teams of 15+ technical staff in complex, regulated, and security-sensitive environments
- Expertise in infrastructure modernization, cloud migration, and platform standardization
- Proven track record in automation initiatives that improve consistency and scalability
- Knowledge of service management frameworks, operational metrics, and SLA-driven environments
- Collaboration with HR and senior leadership on hiring, performance improvement, and organizational development
- Relevant certifications in cloud, systems, or IT service management
- Proficient in Azure/AWS operations and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet)
- Experience with PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation
- Strong experience with hybrid infrastructure (on-premises + cloud platforms)
- Expertise in operational reporting, capacity planning, and platform lifecycle management
- Skilled in coaching and managing staff performance, conflict resolution, and team stabilization during change
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution, fostering a culture of documentation, accountability, and teamwork
- Familiarity with virtualization, backup/recovery, identity services, monitoring platforms, and systems performance management
Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Denver only): $140,737.00 - $261,369.00
Please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon a candidate's experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
